Schalke's Edin Džeko suffers shoulder injury on Bosnia and Herzegovina duty
Schalke striker Edin Džeko suffered a shoulder injury in the final stages of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s victory over Italy and was subsequently unable to participate in the penalty shoot-out as his nation booked their place at this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Bundesliga 2 side confirmed that Džeko had suffered a shoulder injury and is currently “undergoing thorough examinations” with further tests to continue once the Bosnian returns to Gelsenkirchen.
“I hope Edin’s injury isn’t serious and he can be at the World Cup,” remarked Bosnia head coach Sergei Barbarez, who spent his playing career in Germany.
As of now, Schalke confirmed that Miron Muslić is planning without Džeko for Sunday’s Matchday 28 clash against Karlsruhe as the Royal Blues look to increase their gap at the Bundesliga 2 summit and secure a return to Germany’s top flight after a two-year absence.
The 40-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in eight games since his arrival in January, with the Ruhr club one point clear of Elversberg and Paderborn with seen games remaining.
