Wolfsburg and Christian Eriksen agree to terminate midfielder's contract
Wolfsburg and Christian Eriksen have mutually agreed to terminate the veteran midfielder’s contract with the Bundesliga 2 club.
Eriksen, 34, joined Wolfsburg on a two-year contract in September 2025 but was unable to help the Wolves stave off regation to Germany’s second tier.
The playmaker, who registered three goals and nine assists in 34 appearances in 2025/26, has not featured for the club since collapsing during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine in June this year.
“For me, it’s important to be close to my family in Denmark at the moment,” Eriksen wrote in a social media post.
“My time in Wolfsburg was full of ups and downs, but I know the club is in good hands to make its way back to the Bundesliga, and I’m convinced that VfL has a successful future ahead.
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone at VfL and in Wolfsburg who has been part of my journey. It was a great pleasure to play for you, and I will always look back fondly on my time here.”

Dieter Hecking, Wolfsburg’s managing director for sport, added: “For us, it was clear that it was up to Christian to make a decision about his future.
“We wanted to give him that freedom in what is a unique situation, and have now granted his request to terminate his contract. Despite his short tenure, he left a lasting impression on his team-mates, the staff and the fans.
“We thank Christian and wish him and his family all the best from the bottom of our hearts.”
