Full time: Kaiserslautern 0-2 Eintracht Braunschweig

A powerless performance from the Red Devils, who simply couldn't find their flow going forward. Braunschweig put in a lot of effort, but didn't need to deliver peak defensive performances. Thanks to a goalkeeper error and Yardımcı's finishing ability on the counter-attack, they secure a thoroughly deserved and immensely important victory in the relegation battle.

Another substitution

Raebiger comes on for Mijatović.

Chorus of whistles

Going forward, nothing is working for Lautern at the moment, the centre-backs are passing the ball to each other almost helplessly. This is being met with displeasure from the stands.
83'

Last substitution

Skyttä, who has now gone over 1,000 minutes without scoring, makes way for Gibs.
79'

Yardımcı again

The striker is set up with a through ball on the right. He gets past Gyamfi but at the last moment, the Lautern defender manages to intervene. Play continues with a goal kick.
77'

Gómez leaves

Kaufmann comes into the match, a substitution away from pace towards control.
77'

Three points in the bag?

The 1-0 was already a good foundation for Eintracht's victory. But with a two-goal cushion, there's hardly anything standing in their way.

Time-wasting

After Ritter fires the ball well over the bar, Hoffmann takes too much time with the subsequent goal kick.

It's two!

Heußer wins the ball in his own half, sends Flick on a run down the right wing. He keeps his composure, slips the ball through to Yardımcı, who finishes from the right side of the penalty area into the far corner past Kamga. Absolutely clinical counter-attack!

Too imprecise

It was actually a good counter-attacking situation through Şahin, who sends Bassette on his way down the left. However, his early cross lands nowhere and so Lautern are still in search of the equaliser.
66'

Double substitution for Kaiserslautern

Berisha, who didn't achieve much, leaves the pitch, Hanslik comes on. Captain Ritter also enters the match.
62'

Lautern pushing

The hosts are significantly more aggressive in this second half and seem closer to equalising than Braunschweig are to making it 2-0.
59'

Double substitution

Yardımcı comes on for Alidou. Tempelmann also goes off after his lengthy injury. Heusser replaces him.

That was close!

Bassette moves to the left wing, delivers a cross into the middle. Skyttä gets to the ball at the near post, but doesn't connect properly. The attempt goes wide of the far post.
51'

Lieberknecht makes changes

The experiment with Sirch on the left is over, he is now operating in the centre again.
49'

Another corner

Sirch chips the ball into the middle, Ehlers initially clears with his head. Şahin follows up and delivers the ball back in but Braunschweig manage to clear it. Hoffmann's subsequent throw lands back with Kaiserslautern.
47'

Double substitution at half-time

Bassette and Redondo come on for Kleinhansl and Kunze.
46'

We're back under way!

Kaiserslautern get the ball rolling.

Half-time: Kaiserslautern 0-1 Eintracht Braunschweig

This is a deserved lead for the visitors from Lower Saxony. They are compact at the back, throwing themselves into challenges and have their moments in transition play. Kaiserslautern have had significantly more of the play, but appear too sluggish and up front they're mostly relying on individual efforts from Sirch to make something happen. Alidou's goal is the difference at the break.

44'

Braunschweig in search for their second

Sirch's shot is blocked by Marie, Şahin follows up from the left position in the penalty area and tries to finish but Marie and Ehlers throw themselves at the ball with combined efforts.
43'

Symbolic

Kunze wins the ball in his own half, quickly counter-attacks and gets behind the advanced Aydin, but his pass ends up in touch on the left side.
40'

Berisha rises

Sirch gets little pressure on the left wing, crosses into the middle with his right foot, looking for Berisha. But Rasmussen throws himself in between and prevents the striker from heading the ball.
38'

Dangerous on the counter-attack

Hardly any breakthrough for the Red Devils so far. Braunschweig defend compactly at the back and going forward, it's Tempelmann's brilliant moments that set up Alidou. They pose a genuine threat on the counter-attack.
33'

Alert Lautern

The hosts' counter-pressing is on point today. They win the ball back extremely quickly. The only problem: Braunschweig typically sit so deep and compact that Kaiserslautern can't find any disorganisation after regaining possession.

Almost 2-0!

Back pass from Kleinhansl to Kamga, who takes too long to control the ball almost gifts the visitors a second. Alidou nips in and has an empty goal in front of him but Gyamfi clears at the last moment!
29'

Playmaking problems

Kaiserslautern are playing with many switches of play and diagonal balls. However, they are not preparing these situations well enough. Eintracht are specifically waiting for these high balls. As a result, spaces in the centre are often more open.
27'

Successive corner kicks

Joly gets past Gómez on the right wing and wins a set piece. Braunschweig initially clear the corner, but only behind for another one. However, they manage to clear the second one more decisively with a combined effort.

Hoffmann intervenes

Sirch's cross from the left to the far post finds Joly, who shoots from close range but at a tight angle. However, the Braunschweig player manages to block the ball.

Of all people, Alidou

Second goal of the season for Alidou - he scored his first on Matchday 4 also at the Betzenberg, back then in a Kaiserslautern shirt, against Darmstadt.

Braunschweig lead!

Tempelmann shoots from outside the box. Kamga can only parry the central shot forward. Alidou is on hand to react the quickest and slots the ball in from close range.

Now Kaiserslautern pick up the pace a bit. Sirch, who is playing on the left wing today, chips the ball into the middle. Bell Bell manages to clear it with a header at the far post.
7'

Passing the ball around

Kaiserslautern are moving the ball around in their own half. However, without any significant territorial gain, as Braunschweig are closing down well.
5'

First caution

Tempelmann initiates the counter-attack from the centre circle, but Kunze pulls the shirt of the Braunschweig player, earning him the game's first booking.
4'

Double corner

Sirch delivers successive corners into the middle but in both cases, Braunschweig are able to clear with a header.

Eintracht press early

The visitors are not hiding here. Mijatović is already applying pressure high up in the opposition half.

Kick-off!

The ball is rolling at the Betze.

Professional debut

Not regular keeper Krahl, but Enis Kamga is guarding the Kaiserslautern goal today! The 18-year-old makes his professional debut, is considered one of the top goalkeeper talents and is the U-19 national goalkeeper. Last week he was still playing for the second team in the Oberliga in front of 167 spectators against Dudenhofen at the Sportpark Rote Teufel, today he gets to play in front of a completely different crowd at the Betze!

Without the captain

For the first time since Matchday 21 and for the eighth time overall this season, Ritter is sitting on the bench at kick-off. Kunze is wearing the captain's armband.
camera-photo

More on that Braunschweig team

Compared to the 1-1 draw against Hertha Berlin, Braunschweig make two changes. Bell Bell replaces the absent Di Michele Sanchez and Alidou comes in for Heußer. Alidou played for Kaiserslautern in the first half of the season, while Bell Bell was developed at the Red Devils between 2011 and 2017.
camera-photo

More on that Kaiserslautern team

Torsten Lieberknecht is without Mika Haas following the 3-0 defeat in Kiel, making a total of four changes. Besides the new personnel, there could also be a system change back to a three-man defence. New to the team are Kamga, Asta, Kleinhansl and Sirch, while Krahl, Bassette and captain Ritter move to the bench.

Lars Kornetka on facing Kaiserslautern

"This will certainly be a challenge, we are prepared for that. It's clear that they are a team that plays differently, stronger and more aggressively at home than they do away. We're expecting a real battle, a tough fight, and we need to stand our ground from the first minute."
camera-photo

Torsten Lieberknecht on facing Braunschweig

"I'm expecting Braunschweig to be aware of their situation and to play with intensity. It's going to be a full-blooded encounter. My time at Eintracht shaped me - it's definitely a game with emotional significance."
camera-photo

Happy memories

Braunschweig's 1-0 win under current Lautern boss Torsten Lieberknecht on 2 April 2017 is their only triumph in nine visits to the Fritz-Walter-Stadion. Overall, Lieberknecht spent 15 years at Eintracht as a player, U19 coach and first-team boss, leading the club from the 3. Liga to the Bundesliga during his time as head coach.
camera-photo

Lautern licking their lips

The Red Devils have sufferered back-to-back 2-0 away defeats to Braunschweig but have scored eight goals against them in their last two home matches, winning 3-2 and 5-0 respectively.
camera-photo

Due a goal?

Erencan Yardımcı last found the net in Braunschweig's 2-0 win over Lautern earlier this season. The striker has since gone 16 matches, or 1,004 minutes, without scoring.

Traditional rivalry

Kaiserslautern and Braunschweig are former German champions and founding members of the Bundesliga, playing together in the top flight for 20 years. However, their last Bundesliga encounter was nearly 41 years ago - a 2-1 home victory for Braunschweig on 3 May 1985.
