Grönning also played a decisive role in the first round of the DFB Cup in August 2025 at the Preußenstadion. Hertha narrowly prevailed in a penalty shoot-out. The Hertha man netted the winning penalty to see Hertha progress.

Back in the day
Both clubs were founding members of the Bundesliga in 1963/64. Münster's 4-2 victory against Hertha on 9 May 1964 was their last Bundesliga match to date, with Manfred Pohlschmidt scoring the Eagles' last top-flight goal in that encounter.
