Full-time: Schalke 2-2 Dresden

Schalke played a strong second half and could rely on Džeko for long periods. However, despite the 2-0 lead, the Royal Blues failed to take Dresden completely out of the game. Dynamo always believed in themselves and spoiled the Džeko party with two scrappy, but deserved, goals. Although Schalke had opportunities through Becker and Sylla to decide the match earlier, the Royal Blues walk away with yet another draw, which sees their lead at the top of the table reduced to a single point.

Madness! Another corner for Dresden!

For the fifth time in a row, Dynamo score from a corner. Karius fails to reach Rossipal's delivery and the ball slips through his hands. In the end, it's Keller who nods it home without any trouble.

Almost the decisive moment!

After a brilliant combination, Sylla appears alone in front of Schreiber. However, the SGD keeper is on the spot and keeps his lads in the game.

Getting rougher

Both teams are now fighting vehemently over the scoreline. Schalke naturally want to defend it, whilst Dresden would like to prevent defeat.

Dresden back in it!

This is certainly not how Kuruçay would've wanted things to have gone. Not three minutes after being introduced as a substitute, he halves his side's lead with an own goal. Rossipal breaks through on the left wing and powers his way into the penalty area. The cross was intended for Kutschke, but the ball bounces off Kuruçay's chest and into the net.

Džeko leaves the pitch

The Bosnian forward is substituted to thunderous applause. He is replaced by Sylla. Dresden also make a double change as they continue to chase the game.

Džeko doubles Schalke's lead!

With his second strike, the Bosnian shows exactly what he's capable of with a textbook finish. Static, Schalke's No.10 hammers the ball from a central position on the edge of the penalty area into the bottom left corner of Dresden's goal. 2-0 Schalke and two goals for Džeko.

Dynamo once again

In the last few minutes, there hasn't been much to see from Dresden. A set-piece provides a bit of attacking play but it doesn't threaten any danger for Karius.

Can Dresden come back?

So close to a second!

Timo Becker misses a great chance. From about 12 yards, he puts the ball wide of the left post. Goalkeeper Schreiber would likely have been beaten.
57'

Stramm reacts immediately

Striker Vermeij is brought on to revitalise the attacking play. Daferner, who has been somewhat ineffective today, has to make way for him.
55'

Has that lifted the lid?

Dresden were not doing badly prior to conceding, but the goal in the opening minutes of the second half had been somewhat on the cards. How will the visitors respond to this setback?

Džeko fires Schalke in front!

Who else but the veteran striker? A beautiful combination from Schalke sees Aouchiche receive the ball from Karaman in midfield. The substitute then serves Ljubicic on the left wing, who squares it into the middle, where Džeko is waiting to volley the ball past the keeper and into Dynamo's net. 1-0 Schalke!

Applying the pressure

Schalke are applying more pressure in the opening minutes than in the entire 45 minutes before. Džeko delivers a low cross, Timo Becker flicks it on with his heel to Schallenberg. But Schalke's No.6 doesn't finish powerfully enough, allowing Schreiber to make the save.
49'

Corners yet to bear fruit

In each of their last four matches, Dynamo have scored from a corner. So far today, however, Schalke haven't allowed a single Dresden corner.
48'

First chance for Aouchiche

The Royal Blues' new No.24 shoots from a direct free-kick from about 25 yards in a central position. His effort lands straight into the arms of Schreiber.
48'

Goalless first 45 again

Schalke remained goalless in the first 45 minutes for their sixth consecutive match. Perhaps playing towards the Nordkurve in the second half will provide the right motivation to break the deadlock.

Half-time: Schalke 0-0 Dresden

Although the Royal Blues started the better of the sides, dominating the opening minutes, whilst Dresden initially showed restraint. The visitors, however, gradually took control. Džeko almost capitalised on a short back pass from Sterner for the lead. All in all, the 0-0 at half-time is fair. Both teams were able to make their mark, but apart from Džeko, neither created a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity.

Dresden with the upper hand

At the moment, Dresden are still missing that little bit of luck. However, Dynamo are getting closer and closer to Karius's goal, whilst Schalke are currently just chasing the game.
33'

Off target

Daferner shifts the play to the right side to Ceka. He lays it off for Sterner making a run behind, but the full-back shoots well wide from a promising position.
31'

Keller from distance

The Dresden player sees that Karius is off his line and tries his luck from about 35 yards. Karius backpeddles, but luckily for the Schalke goalkeeper, the ball goes out for a goal-kick.

Wall does its job

Ceka is fouled by Ayhan in a central position not far from goal. Rossipal shoots from the resulting free-kick, however, his effort is blocked by the Schalke wall.

Daferne is sought out and gets a touch on the ball. For a brief moment, the ball is loose in the penalty area, but Timo Becker is on the spot and boots it away.
17'

No shot

Dresden are doing well in their build-up play until they reach the penalty area, where they keep losing possession. As of yet, the visitors have struggled to fashion any clear-cut chances.
camera-photo

Battling for every ball

It's a combative affair as Schalke want to defend their position at the top of the table, whilst Dresden want to lift themselves from the bottom of the table as quickly as possible.
12'

Schalke coming forward

Karaman wins the ball. Schalke counter quickly, but ultimately the ball ends up in Schreiber's hands.
8'

Headed over

Captain Karaman is held and Schalke are awarded a free-kick. Ayhan delivers from the half-space, finding Katić in the box, who heads it over.
6'

First chance

Lemmer looks for the finish from about 20 yards, trying to curl the ball into the net. However, his effort sails just over the bar.
6'

Assuming control

Currently Schalke are controlling the ball. The game plan of both teams is clear. Both teams want to press high and create quick counter-attacking situations.
3'

Early clash

Schalke's Gomis and Dresden's Rossipal collide with one another and need a short breather. We'll likely see more of this duel today as the game goes on.

Atmospheric entrance

The teams enter the pitch, the stands are shaking. Everything is set for an exciting football match.

A look at Schalke's bench

Adil Aouchiche, another last-minute signing, is among the subs. Hasan Kuruçay is also likely to play again, but remains on the bench for now. Moussa Sylla is back in the squad after his transfer to the MLS fell through.

Debutant N'Diaye

Moussa N'Diaye only arrived from Anderlecht on Monday and is already in the starting XI today, partly because Vitalie Becker remains unavailable on the left.
camera-photo

Džeko starts!

After two substitute appearances, the time has come as Edin Džeko starts for Schalke for the first time! He is the oldest outfield player to make a starting appearance in Bundesliga 2 since Mirko Votava in 1997.
camera-photo

The captain is back

Dynamo make only one change compared to the 1-1 draw against Bielefeld. Robert Wagner is missing after his red card last week, but captain Niklas Hauptmann is fit again.
camera-photo

Calm for now

The stands are still empty in Gelsenkirchen, but expect another full house as Schalke host Dresden.
camera-photo

Miron Muslić on facing Dresden

"We can't wait to play this game. Dresden have collected seven points from their last three matches, so they're clearly on an upward trajectory. We want to arrest this poor run we've had over the past three or four matches. It's in our hands."
camera-photo

Thomas Stamm on facing Schalke

"We're obviously looking forward to it - we work hard every day for moments like these. That said, we know what to expect in terms of atmosphere. Schalke are strong at home and it'll be difficult for us to get a result, but we haven't lost yet in 2026. Our goal has to be to stay unbeaten."
camera-photo

445 minutes and counting

Dresden have never won in Gelsenkirchen, drawing twice, losing three times and scoring only once - through Uwe Rösler in 1991. Dynamo have since gone 445 minutes without finding the net at Schalke.
camera-photo

Memorable cup victory

Dynamo's last win against the Royal Blues was a DFB Cup thriller. In August 2014, third-division Dresden triumphed 2-1 over UEFA Champions League participants Schalke, who had Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Joel Matip, Julian Draxler and Kevin-Prince Boateng in their ranks.
camera-photo

Level pegging

Schalke and Dresden have faced each other 12 times in all competions, including eight meetings in the Bundesliga. Both sides have emerged triumphant on five occasions.

Unblemished record

Schalke have won all three meetings between the teams in Bundesliga 2. Kenan Karaman scored the winner in the corresponding fixture earlier this term, firing home from the penalty spot to clinch a 1-0 victory.
