Full-time: Kaiserslautern 1-3 Elversberg

The red card shown to Robinson shortly before half-time turned the match on its head, although Elversberg had impressed prior to the sending off. The hosts did manage to react well to going a man and a goal down, equalising shortly after, but they struggled in the second half and Elversberg will take a deserved three points home with them.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
Both teams have already had some good scoring opportunities here. Joly's shot hitting the post was certainly the biggest chance so far.

Prtajin starts for Lautern

Kaiserslautern's goalscorer last started at the end of November, then missed out due to injury and only made his comeback in the new year, scoring three goals in two substitute appearances.

Rasmussen on the bench

Jacob Rasmussen was signed by Lautern from Salzburg yesterday, and today the Danish centre-back is already in the squad. Rasmussen has also played in Germany before, making 14 appearances for Erzgebirge Aue in Bundesliga 2 in 2019/20, and was German champion with Schalke's youth team in 2015 alongside Leroy Sané and Fabian Reese.

Same personnel

The visitors from Saarland start with the same starting line-up as last week against Bochum.

Lautern subs

Simoni, Rasmussen, Kleinhansl, Asta, Hofmeister, Redondo, Şahin, Kunze, Hanslik

Elversberg subs

Trying to keep pace

Fourth-placed Elversberg head into Matchday 19 four points off top spot but are now without a win in their last three Bundesliga 2 games. They have picked up one point from their last two away games - a 1-1 draw at Preußen Münster and a 3-2 defeat at Nuremberg.
camera-photo

Lautern on the rise

Kaiserslautern lost 3-2 at home to struggling Magdeburg on 20 December but have made a promising start to 2026, following up a 3-1 home win over Hannover with a point at leaders Schalke. They are five adrift of third-placed Paderborn but will hope to close that gap this weekend.

The Red Devils let a two-goal lead slip in Gelsenkirchen on Matchday 19.

Vincent Wagner on facing Kaiserslautern

"We prefer a short passing game. Kaiserslautern do as well, but they play more long passes in order to then compete for second balls. Their stadium also plays a big part."

Torsten Lieberknecht on facing Elversberg

"Elversberg have shown in recent years that they are very serious competitors. We greatly respect what is being achieved there. They try to get the most out of their environment, just as we do with ours. Both teams have developed since the first leg. Nevertheless, we are still close together in the table and perhaps both flying a bit under the radar."

Watch: Elversberg 2- 1 Kaiserslautern - previous meeting

Since then, Elversberg have collected 10 points in four matches against the Red Devils. Earlier this season, Frederik Schmahl shot the Saarlanders to a 2-1 victory in stoppage time.

Barren patch

Kaiserslautern have won only one of their five encounters with Elversberg. That victory came back in the very first meeting between these sides in August 2023 (3-2 at home).
