Darmstadt looking dangerous

The Lilies are unbeaten in Bundesliga 2 for almost two months now. There have been four wins and two draws since a 1-0 loss to Schalke and have won their last two (3-2 against Karlsruhe and 1-0 against Preußen Münster).

Darmstadt coach Florian Kohfeldt has visited Paderborn twice before, with very different outcomes. In June 2020, he won 5-1 with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. However, his October 2017 game with Werder's second team saw a heavy 7-1 defeat in the 3. Liga. Sven Michel scored a hat-trick.

Luck on their side

Both clubs have had the huge fortune in the past of staying up in the 3. Liga despite finishing in the relegation spots after another team had their licence revoked (Darmstadt in 2013, Paderborn in 2017). Both would then gain back-to-back promotions in the following two seasons to go up to the Bundesliga.
