Full-time: Hertha 1-1 Arminia

It ends all square after a dramatic finale in Berlin. Seguin fired the hosts in front in a game of few chances, before Leistner's red card gave Arminia a glimmer of hope. Their man advantage told deep into added time as Russo struck to rescue a point that keeps his side in mid-table ahead of the winter break. Winless in three, meanwhile, Hertha, could find themselves as many as eight points outside the promotion places come the end of the weekend.

Last-gasp equaliser!

Kersken sends a ball into the box for Russo, who bends a stunning effort into the top corner with virtually the last kick of the game. What a finish!

Hertha down to 10 men!

Leistner can't keep up with Young. He's clearly the last man as he hauls him to the turf, and the referee reaches straight for the red card. Can Arminia make their man advantage count?

Foul play

Reese shoves over Hagmann before he can get a shot off from the edge of the Hertha area. However, the ensuing free-kick comes to nothing.

Safe hands

Seguin finds the arms of Kersken with a free-kick after Wörl was booked for a foul on Reese.

Dangerous!

Schneider tries a long-range shot which takes a nasty bounce in front of Ernst, who manages to push the ball away.
75'

Booking

Momuluh goes into the book for a late challenge on Gechter. The Arminia man can have no complaints with that decision.
73'

Vital intervention

Reese goes past Hagmann on the left wing and crosses into the danger zone, but Kersken dives in front of Kownacki to prevent a certain goal.
70'

How will Arminia respond?

Bielefeld will have to go for it now, which should play into the hands of Hertha, who are not short of quick players.
67'

Breakthrough goal!

Karbownik and Winkler combine after Wörl concedes possession. Seguin receives the pass and takes aim from 18 yards, nestling his first goal of the season beyond the reach of the goalkeeper. That should open things up a little!

Sums up the game

Cuisance receives the ball in the Bielefeld penalty area and dribbles past Schneider, but slips as he goes to shoot and the ball sails harmlessly off target.

No way through

Handwerker has the ball in space on the left side and crosses for Hagmann, who'd made a late burst, but the shot is blocked by a crowd of players.

Back under way!

Young has come on as a fresh attacking option for Bielefeld, replacing Sarenren Bazee. Hertha are unchanged at the start of the second half.

Half-time: Hertha 0-0 Arminia

Reese and Sarenren Bazee had the best chances of an otherwise uneventful first half in the German capital. There's certainly room for improvement across the board, but Bielefeld will be pretty content to be going in at the break level.

More uncertain defending!

Großer's attempted clearance from inside the Bielefeld area falls straight to Reese, but Kerksen makes himself big and makes a crucial block.
38'

Straight at Ernst!

Wörl pounces on Gechter's misplaced pass, but his shot from 20 yards out goes straight into the arms of Ernst.
34'

Ernst made to work!

The biggest chance so far! Schuler loses the ball and Momuluh immediately threads it through to Sarenren Bazee. He turns into the space before shooting towards the bottom left corner, but it lacks the power to seriously trouble the Hertha goalkeeper.

Mishit

Reese drives down the left wing and plays the ball low into the middle to Schuler. He miscues as it bounces back to Reese, before the linesman's flag goes up for an offside against the Hertha forward.

More possession isn't everything...

The home side are seeing a little more of the ball, but Arminia are doing a solid job of keeping them at bay so far.

Corboz breaks clear on the right-hand side and chips the ball into the middle. Sarenren Bazee tries a diving header, but the ball hits his shoulder and goes wide.

Everything but the finish

Reese's been as lively as anyone in the Hertha attack, but the end product just hasn't been there today.
15'

There's the substitution

Bitter for Kolbe, who had only just been promoted to the starting XI today and has to leave the pitch after less than a quarter of an hour. The centre-back limps off and heads straight down the tunnel.
12'

That doesn't look good

Following a free-kick by the visitors, Kolbe goes down without any contact. He signals to the bench that he won't be able to continue...
9'

Crossed wires

Bielefeld earn the game's first corner, which Wörl sends into the six-yard box, but Großer and Russo get in each other's way and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
6'

First attempt

Gechter gets the ball in midfield and marches up the right-hand side. The space opens up outside the area for a shot, but he misses the target by some distance.

Positive from Arminia

The visitors are pressing aggressively and making their intentions clear from the start.

Putting the 'old' in 'Old Lady'

With Hertha selecting a 34-year-old and a 28-year-old to replace a 16-year-old and a 23-year-old, the average age of their side has risen above 27 years for the first time this season (27.5).
camera-photo

More on that Bielefeld team

Arminia also make two changes to the starting XI after their 0-0 draw against Kaiserslautern. Mitch Kniat opts to select Hagmann and Scheider, who has recovered from a stomach bug, while Boakye and Mehlem are moved to the bench. Their top scorer, Grodowski, is out of the squad due to illness.
camera-photo

More on that Hertha team

Stefan Leitl is forced to make two changes to the Hertha side that began the 3-3 draw in Fürth: Dardai and Eichhorn do not make the squad, with Kolbe and Demme taking their places. Krattenmacher (ankle injury) is also out, with homegrown talent Mamuzah Lum on the bench.

Michél Kniat on facing Hertha

"Hertha are very solid defensively and have enormous quality and pace in transition. We need to counter-press from the off and create our own goalscoring opportunities. We want to bring stability to our game."

Stefan Leitl on facing Bielefeld

"Thirty points is an important milestone as far as staying in the top half is concerned. Everyone needs to give their all on Friday to ensure we reach that tally."
camera-photo

Good memories

Mitch Kniat has only faced Stefan Leitl once before, winning 2-0 in the DFB Cup in August 2024 against Leitl's Hannover. That first-round victory kickstarted Bielefeld's run all the way to the final as a 3. Liga club.

It's been a while

Bielefeld last won against Hertha in January 2021 (1-0 at home in the Bundesliga), but their last away win against the Berliners was 47 years ago! In October 1978, they achieved a 2-1 victory in the Bundesliga under Otto Rehhagel. Since then, there have been 14 matches in Berlin resulting in seven home wins and seven draws.

Rare meeting at this level

It's the first time in 15 years that both clubs are playing together in Bundesliga 2. Back in 2010/11, Hertha won 3-1 both at home and away.

Last encounter over three years ago

Hertha and Bielefeld last met in the 2021/22 Bundesliga season. The Berliners won 2-0 at home and earned a 1-1 draw at the Schüco Arena in April 2022 under Felix Magath.
