Full-time: Braunschweig 1-1 Ulm

For both teams, it's more of a loss of points this Saturday afternoon. Ulm fought valiantly for a long time, but they ultimately came unstuck at corners. They paid the price shortly before the end through Polter, who was on the spot with a header. Braunschweig must accept the criticism of not being decisive enough for long periods. In the closing minutes, both teams tried again but couldn't force a victory.

Both want the victory

In the final phase, both sides now want to secure the three points. While the match seemed rather sluggish for a long time, it is now gaining in intensity.

Ulm try to strike back

Anyone who thinks that the visitors now want to defend their point is mistaken. Ulm are now defending higher up the pitch and barely allowing Braunschweig out of their own half.

Finally!

Polter rises highest to meet a corner from the left, nodding it straight into the right corner. No chance for Ortag in the Ulm goal as Braunschweig finally get back on level terms.

Time's ticking...

Although the substituted Tachie is causing problems with his runs behind the Ulm defensive line, Braunschweig just can't string a move together. And they don't have much time left.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
Even though Eintracht have had more scoring opportunities since the change of ends, they've not been clear-cut chances. Their attempts have either been too rushed or come from crosses that were difficult to do much with.

Tempelmann rises high

Another good opportunity for Eintracht. The substitute Tachie delivers a cross from the right into the penalty area. From a half-right position, Tempelmann gets a relatively free header. However, the attempt flies over the Ulm goal.
71'

Unnecessary corner

Substitute Köhler heads a high ball behind his own goal without any real pressure. However, the resulting corner yields nothing for Ulm.

Ulm now more assertive

Compared to the first half, Ulm are now managing to win the ball back more quickly.

Brilliant save by Hoffmann!

The Braunschweig keeper stretches himself to the limit as he parries Telalović's low shot from the edge of the penalty area. The clear-cut chance for Ulm was once again preceded by winning the ball high up on the right flank.
63'

Fresh legs for Ulm

It's only logical that the hosts are now bringing on Telalović for Röser. The visiting team's striker has only been able to make a limited impact in recent minutes.

Braunschweig play it quickly

Good scoring opportunity for Marie from a central position! Eintracht manage to bypass Ulm's midfield with two quick passes. This is how the hosts would like to continue.

Sparrows not hiding

The visitors are by no means barricading themselves in their own penalty area. They are trying to disrupt Braunschweig's play early on. It's no coincidence that their goalscoring opportunities so far have come from quick ball recoveries.

Corners can be a useful tool

The next decent attempt from Eintracht. Once again, Szabó gets a free shot from a half-right position following a corner. However, his volley once more sails over the visitors' goal.
53'

Braunschweig have possession, Ulm have the lead

Despite the clear possession statistics, the home side have barely managed to create anything threatening towards the Ulm goal. The visitors seem to be content with their limited possession.

First good chance for Braunschweig!

There it is, the big chance for the Lions. A low cross comes in from the right into the penalty area, but Szabó's shot is blocked by the visitors. The follow-up also reaches the Eintracht striker. However, the volley lands over the crossbar.
49'

First foul, then fouled

Gaal first concedes a free-kick on the halfway line due to his late challenge, only to draw a foul for his Ulm side shortly after in an aerial duel. This pretty much sums up the match so far.

Hosts make half-time switch

Marie is brought on to provide more attacking impetus in place of Gómez, who had been ineffective so far.

後半開始

Half-time: Braunschweig 0-1 Ulm

Ulm started this match with significantly more conviction. The early goal has played completely into their hands since then. They are defending securely from an organised back line. On the other side, Braunschweig are not challenging them enough. Subsequently, despite having less possession, Ulm continued to have the clearly better chances. If any team has embraced the relegation battle here, it's the Sparrows from the Danube!

Braunschweig press

Just before the break, Eintracht have pushed Ulm deep into their own half. Although it looks quite pleasing down the left side with Di Michele Sanchez, there's a lack of clear-cut chances.
camera-photo

Braunschweig geting no favours

It remains the same. Eintracht are having to fight for every yard, for every ball. The visitors are throwing themselves into every challenge!
39'

Visitors running down the clock

It's noticeable that the visitors want to take their narrow lead into half-time. They're taking their time with goal-kicks, and Rösch's recent treatment break also dragged on for quite a while.
37'

Rittmüller the driving force

When Braunschweig do manage to create something, it's often down the right flank. Rittmüller is frequently sought out with long balls in that area. However, as has been the case throughout the afternoon, Ulm defend collectively to deal with the threat.
34'

Always out wide

When Ulm manage to create something, it's down the flanks. Allgeier just broke through on the right side and crossed the ball into the box. Braunschweig managed to clear the danger with a combined effort.
31'

Ulm's efficiency

In total, both teams have already fired off five shots each. The visitors have got three on target, but Braunschweig's attempts have been more likely to end up in the upper tier of the stands.

Ulm with another big chance!

Keller suddenly finds himself in front of Hoffmann after a short back pass. However, the Ulm left winger loses his nerve and fails to get past Eintracht's goalkeeper.

Toothless Lions

After conceding, Eintracht now seem to be playing a bit better, winning more second balls. However, their attacks keep fizzling out around 30 metres from the Ulm goal, and they have to retreat back to defend.
20'

Disjointed start

It's the expected hard-fought match. Both sides frequently looking for long balls forward. The battle for second balls is fierce.
15'

Braunschweig lacking penetration

Although Eintracht have had more possession, it's primarily in their own half. Most of their attacks are fizzling out on the wings, and the ball is played back to Bičakčić & Co.
11'

Goal for Ulm!

Bičakčić fails to clear a cross from the right flank cleanly. Röser is then there to pounce and squeezes the ball into the far corner with a first-time shot off the inside of the post. No chance for Hoffmann and the visitors lead!

Braunschweig striving for control

Eintracht are now trying to establish themselves in Ulm's half and manage to press quickly after losing possession. This courage is rewarded with a throw-in near the corner flag.

Ulm missing key men

A real blow for the visitors at the back, where former Braunschweig player Philipp Strompf was already missing. Now, Niklas Kolbe is also out, with both among the top five tacklers in the league. It will be interesting to see how Thomas Wörle solves this - will he pull another player back into the back three or switch to a back four for the first time this season?

New defence

Robert Ivanov is fit again and plays in place of Paul Jaeckel, while Marvin Rittmüller is preferred over Mohamed Dräger on the right.

Ulm starting XI

Ortag - Gaal, Reichert, Rösch - Allgeier, Hyryläinen, Brandt, Keller - Krattenmacher, Batista Meier - Röser

Braunschweig starting XI

Hoffmann - Rittmüller, Ivanov, Bičakčić, Ehlers, Di Michele Sanchez - Baas - Gómez, Tempelmann - Szabó, Philippe

Thomas Wörle's view on Braunschweig

"The opponent has struck again in the transfer market this winter and brought in five new players. Some with experience from the first and second divisions. Of course, it's helpful to know that we've already beaten this team once. What you've achieved once, you can achieve again."

Daniel Scherning's view on Ulm

"When 16th hosts 17th, it's an important match. If the 16th-placed team can also increase the gap to six points with a win, then it's a great opportunity. The 17th-placed team, on the other hand, can close the gap, which is their goal. We have shown often enough that we are capable of being very difficult to play against at home and winning matches."

Promotion specialist

Philipp Strompf has been promoted to the second tier with both clubs, first with Braunschweig (2021/22) and then with Ulm (2023/24). Strompf played 19 matches in the 3. Liga and five in Bundesliga 2 for Eintracht.

Unbeaten in three

Ulm have not lost any of their three competitive matches against Braunschweig so far. Before the reverse fixture, the teams had only met in the 1986/87 second division season, with the Sparrows winning 4-2 at home and drawing 2-2 in Braunschweig.
