Schalke sign Australian teenager Dylan Leonard
Schalke have signed Australia youth international Dylan Leonard on a long-term deal from A-League side Western United.
The 18-year-old has signed a contract valid until 30 June 2030.
"I’m delighted to be here and I gathered many great impressions at the weekend," said the centre-back, who witnessed his new side's 1-0 defeat at home to Holstein Kiel from the stands at the Veltins Arena last Saturday.
"The club’s management team laid out a really interesting path during our discussions, which I now want to embark on together," he continued.
“We've been able to sign a young and talented centre-back in Dylan," said Schalke's director of professional football Youri Mulder.
"We will give him the time he needs to settle in to life in Europe over the coming months. He has chosen to take a big step at a very young age. This proves just how ambitious Dylan is in pursuing his goals.”
Schalke are currently seventh in the Bundesliga 2 standings after five games of the new season, having won three and drawn two so far.
Leonard could be in line to make his debut as Miron Muslić's side travel to second-bottom Magdeburg on Matchday 6 this Saturday.
