Full-time: Magdeburg 4-1 Bochum

After 90 minutes of fantastic action Magdeburg win 4-1 against Bochum. The Elbe city side set the tone from the beginning, with Musonda putting the hosts in front after just seven minutes. The hosts remain sharp thereafter, and were rewarded with a 2-0 lead just before half-time through Atik. In the second half, Bochum pulled one back through Hofmann, but in the closing stages, Zukowski sealed the deal with a quick-fire double, ensuring a thoroughly deserved home victory for Magdeburg.

Magdeburg make it 3-1!

It all comes from an ice-cold counter-attack! Atik drives the ball forward with pace down the left, enters the penalty area and then calmly plays it across to Zukowski. The striker takes the ball in his stride and finishes from six metres into the bottom left corner.

62'

30 minutes to go

Bochum are significantly stronger than in the first half and are now applying much more pressure. Magdeburg seem unsettled as the composure from the first period is gone. This will be a very interesting final 30 minutes here...
59'

Reimann makes the stop

Bochum can sniff an equaliser! Alfa-Ruprecht does brilliantly on the left and then plays a low ball back from near the byline into the penalty area. The substitute Marshall is lurking there and shoots directly from seven metres out. He aims for the near post, but Reimann makes a strong save to concede a corner. The resulting set-piece comes to nothing.

Bochum pull one back!

The deficit is halved! Miyoshi holds his ground on the right side of the pitch and then plays a superb through ball into the box to Hofmann. The striker receives the ball centrally with his back to goal, turns and finishes from 11 metres into the bottom left corner of the net. Reimann dives down but cannot prevent the ball from going in. Game on!
53'

First booking of the match

Olsen brings down Musonda in midfield, resulting in a yellow card.
52'

Hofmann has an effort

The striker nods a cross from the right half-space by Olsen just wide of the left post. He's about a metre off target...
50'

Almost the 3-0!

At the other end of the pitch, Zukowski has a huge chance for the 3-0! After a fine cross from the right by Ulrich, the striker is alone in front of Horn, but he doesn't connect properly with the ball from seven metres out and therefore miserably puts it wide of the left post.
49'

Wide from Miyoshi

Alfa-Ruprecht crosses from the left to the middle, Miyoshi runs in at the far post and guides the ball from five metres just wide of the right post. The attacking player doesn't connect properly with the ball, otherwise it would probably be 2-1 now.

Magdeburg double their lead!!

Just before the break, the hosts strike again! Mathisen plays an outstanding lofted ball from the right half-space, sending it forward centrally into the box to the advancing Atik. The attacking player plucks the ball brilliantly out of the air, finds himself free in front of Horn and guides the ball from seven metres past the keeper and into the back of the net.
43'

Horn secure

Atik crosses from the left to the inside and looks for Zukowski in the middle, but the delivery is a touch too far. Horn is alert and catches the cross securely.
42'

Alfa-Ruprecht impresses

After a short corner, Atik dances with the ball at his feet on the right wing, but Alfa-Ruprecht stays solid in the challenge and fairly dispossesses the attacker.
41'

Pain for Ulrich

The midfielder is caught on the foot by Hofmann and requires treatment afterwards. However, the Magdeburg player is back on his feet and can continue playing.
40'

Five minutes to go

The first half is coming to an end - can Bochum manage to equalise before the break?
38'

Tachie goes down

Strompf misplays the ball, then the defender trips the pursuing Tachie. The Magdeburg player remains down on the ground, but he can continue playing for now.
36'

Tricky Cross

After a short corner from the right, Bockhorn crosses the ball from almost the right corner of the penalty area. The delivery takes a very strange flight path and flies dangerously towards the near post. In the end, the ball lands on the outside of the right netting, narrowly missing the target.
32'

First sub of the match

Morgalla is replaced by Olsen after just 30 minutes. Rösler seems to be reacting to his team's performance so far, as there is no hint of a potential injury.
29'

Magdeburg tenacious

After losing the ball, they need only 13 seconds on average to win it back. It's quite different for the visitors, who need more than twice as long to do so.

Almost an equaliser out of nowhere

It was very nearly 1-1! Alfa-Ruprecht is suddenly through on goal after a fine through ball from Wätjen, and finds himself alone on the left side of the box in front of Reimann. From twelve metres, the attacker shoots, but Reimann makes a strong save to tip the shot over the crossbar. The subsequent corner from the right comes to nothing.
27'

Another shot

Ulrich shoots from just inside the penalty area, but the shot lacks placement and poses no problems for Horn.
camera-photo

Pure Dominance

Magdeburg continue to hog the ball, with the visitors currently offering nothing at all. If it continues like this, another goal for the hosts is only a matter of time.
24'

Foul by Hofmann

The striker brings Michel down from behind in midfield, resulting in a free kick for the home side. The subsequent set piece is once again played high into the box but poses no danger this time.
20'

Mathisen can't direct it goalwards

Atik floats a free kick from the centre of the field precisely forward to the half-left of the penalty area to the lurking Mathisen. The defender rises for a header from a few metres out, and nods the ball well wide of the right post.
19'

Bochum can't get a proper grip

Rösler's side have been chasing the game a lot, with spaces in Bochum's midfield already beginning to open up.
16'

Quarter of an hour gone

Magdeburg have been the better team so far and have clearly had more possession. They keep pushing forward and looking for ways to attack, while Bochum are waiting for counter-attack opportunities. Being behind, they will have to do more sooner or later and try to open up their game.
15'

Alfa-Ruprecht tries his luck

The Bochum player cuts in from the left and then looks for a finish from 18 metres out. His attempt is too central and flies straight into Reimann's arms.
13'

Zukowski with the chance

Musonda crosses from the left and at the far post, Tachie heads it across. Zukowski is lurking in the six-yard box and sticks his boot out, but he can't direct the ball properly towards the goal, and so the chance fizzles out in the end.
9'

Bochum looking for a response

The visitors advance down the right through Miyoshi, but then the speedy winger gets caught and loses the ball.
camera-photo

GOOOOOAL!

It's a dream start for the hosts! Of all people, former Bochum player Bockhorn crosses the ball from the right at full speed, just before the byline, delivering a perfect ball to the far post, where Musonda runs in and heads it perfectly into the bottom left corner of the net from nine metres out. Horn stretches but cannot prevent the ball from going in.

Reimann on the ball early

The keeper is positioned far in front of his box when his team has possession and is, as usual, frequently involved in the build-up play for the East German side.
3'

Cautious start

Both teams are feeling each other out in these first few minutes, with not much happening at either end of the pitch so far.
2'
