Full-time: Darmstadt 2-0 Kiel

After a relatively even start, the game turned when Marcus Müller picked up a second yellow card after 25 minutes for a late challenge on Luca Marseiler. From then on, Darmstadt were in complete control, and although Kiel held out until the break, quickfire goals from Isac Lidberg and Niklas Schmidt in the 48th and 52nd minutes gave Darmstadt an unassailable lead. Darmstadt then had chances to add to their lead, but the promotion contenders couldn’t further improve their goal difference.

Marseiler doesn't strike the ball properly

80'

Schmidt is done for the day

The scorer of the second goal leaves the pitch to great applause, with Lakenmacher coming on fresh for the final phase.
79'

Can Kiel still score a consolation goal?

Kiel have only failed to score in one of their twelve away matches this season, in the 1-0 defeat at Elversberg at the end of September. At the moment, there's not much to suggest that this streak will continue.

Schmidt narrowly misses

The midfielder takes aim from the half-right and targets the bottom left corner. The ball whistles just a whisker past the post, not much missing for a brace.
76'

The ball is moving like clockwork

Darmstadt are playing one pass after another and are moving the ball very securely through their own ranks. Kiel are sometimes not even getting into the tackles and are always a step too late.
73'

The final phase is approaching

Just over a quarter of an hour of regular time remains, and nothing suggests a comeback from Kiel. SVD are closer to making it 3-0 than the visitors are to scoring a consolation goal.
70'

No danger

Richter gets a shot away from the right side of the penalty area, aiming for the bottom left corner. The attempt misses the goal by a good couple of yards.
68'

Another substitution for the visitors

Komenda is replaced by Rosenboom.
65'

Too long

Lidberg is sought out on the right with a high pass, but the pass is a bit too long. Weiner rushes out of his box and clears the ball ahead of the striker.

Almost magic

Lidberg tries a flick on the edge of the box that doesn't quite come off.
62'

Tight Angle

Richter shoots from the left side of the penalty area, just in front of the byline, from a few yards out. Weiner is positioned at the near post and saves with his left leg.
61'

One hour gone

Darmstadt have everything under control and look on course for victory with this two-goal lead and the numerical advantage. For Kiel, on the other hand, it is about damage limitation now.
59'

The Hessians are playing significantly more passes than the North Germans. Not too suprising given the man advantage that they have.

Just wide

Schmidt almost adds his second! Petretta plays the ball low from the left into the middle, Schmidt makes a run to the near post and shoots from a few yards out. He aims for the left corner, but the ball flies just centimetres wide of the goal frame.
54'

Double substitution for KSV

Davidsen and Bernhardsson come on for Kelati and Tohumcu.
53'

Schmidt scores

That was Schmidt's first goal since October 2023, when he scored for Toulouse against Metz in Ligue1. His last goal in Germany was in May 2023 in the Bundesliga for Bremen against Bayern. Naturally, it was also his first strike for the Lilies.

Darmstadt extend their lead!

Now it's 2-0! Zec plays a loose pass out from the back, allowing Marseiler to get hold of the ball and immediately deliver a low cross from the left. Schmidt is lurking in the middle and finishes from inside the box with a low shot into the right corner. Weiner stretches but can't prevent the ball from hitting the back of the net.

Lidberg grabs the opener

Lidberg ends his goal drought and puts SVD in front! Akiyama sends López deep on the right side, and he then delivers the ball low and sharp into the middle. Lidberg makes a run to the near post, gets to the ball ahead of the onrushing Weiner and rounds the keeper on the right. He then calmly slots it into the empty net from a couple of yards out.

Half-time: Darmstadt 0-0 Kiel

It's still 0-0 at the break, despite Kiel going down to ten men in the 25th minute, when Müller received a second yellow card. Since that moment, only the home side have really had the ball, but they've failed to create any clear-cut goal-scoring opportunities so far.

40'

Into the clouds

Vukotić cleverly flicks on a long throw-in from the left side with a header into the penalty area, where Klefisch is lurking and manages to get a shot away while falling from a few yards out. However, he doesn't connect with the ball properly, sending it into the third tier and well over the crossbar.
40'

Five minutes to go

The first half is slowly coming to an end. Will one of the two teams manage to score the opening goal before the break?
38'

Tolkin good

Richter wants to get to the byline, but Tolkin is alert and dispossesses the attacking player fairly.

Another Yellow Card

Schmidt is not at all happy after a free kick is awarded against him following a duel in midfield with Therkelsen and complains to Aytekin. The referee doesn't hesitate long and books the Darmstadt player for dissent.

No quarter given

Richter and Komenda are battling it out here.
34'

Lots of patience from the home side

The hosts are keeping the ball moving and making the opponents chase, patiently looking for gaps in attack. So far, Kiel are shifting well and making the spaces very tight.
31'

Half hour gone

Darmstadt now have complete control of the match, Kiel must reorganise with one man less. The visitors will play more than an hour with a numerical disadvantage; this could turn into a very long afternoon for the Storks.

Florian Kohfeldt on facing Kiel

"You can't argue away the fact that Kiel is not where they wanted to be in the table and where they belong. We will stay very focused on ourselves. We have our own processes and a clear system. These should give us a good chance of winning this home match. Holstein Kiel are a tough challenge waiting for us."

Tim Walter on facing Darmstadt

"Everybody knows that Darmstadt are good at set pieces with their tall players. We need the absolute commitment to defend our goal with everything we have."

Walter likes Darmstadt

Kiel head coach Tim Walter was responsible for Darmstadt's heaviest home defeat in Bundesliga 2, which came on 6 February 2022 while at Hamburg. His side won 5-0 at the Böllenfalltor, with Robert Glatzel scoring four goals - three of them coming in the first 13 minutes.

Bad memories

Florian Kohfeldt has only collected one point in three matches against Kiel as a head coach, which came earlier this season. In 2016/17, he suffered two defeats at the helm of Werder Bremen II.

Double delight

The Storks last won against the Lilies in 2021, but then twice within nine days: On 24 January 2021, they achieved a 2-0 victory at Böllenfalltor, and on 2 February they prevailed at home in the DFB-Pokal on penalties.

Darmstadt's streak

The Lilies have not lost any of their last six matches against the Storks (three wins, three draws).
