Full-time: Kaiserslautern 1-2 Paderborn

What a wild finish! At first, everything seemed decided by the late penalty. But then came the consolation goal from Redondo. However, because Paderborn defended well afterwards, they deservedly take the three points home.

Blocked

Tigges gets into the danger area again. This time, however, Sirch blocks the shot at the penalty spot.

How did that not go in?

Tigges gets past Sirch on the left and plays it into the middle. There, Krahl, with the help of Kleinhansl, just manages to clear from Bilbija.
78'

Without Reward

It is currently a fast-paced match. However, no big chances are materialising because the wrong decisions are often being made in the final third.
76'

Time for substitutions

The match is going back and forth at the moment, which is making the players tired. That's why both managers are making several changes at once.

Lautern are desperate to equalise here and are throwing a lot forward. This is also resulting in several counter-attack opportunities for Paderborn.

66'

That should have gone in!

A back pass to Krahl is almost too short, meaning the keeper has to simply clear the ball forward. Bassette reacts the quickest to it and runs alone towards Seimen. However, he shoots just wide of the goal.
65'

Time for some changes

The visitors are currently pushing for a second goal. Two fresh players are now coming on to help with this effort.
64'

Paderborn again

Suddenly Brackelmann appears up front again. This time, his shot goes over the crossbar.

Promising move breaks down

Scheller loses the ball during build-up play and then FCK counter-attacks. Skyttä makes the wrong decision in the end. There was more potential in that move.

Half-time: Kaiserslautern 0-1 Paderborn

The final minutes before the break completely transformed the story of the match. Paderborn had only slight advantages in play up until that point. With Brackelmann's direct free-kick goal, the visitors lead at half-time. Because Lieberknecht complained afterwards, he must watch the second half from the stands.

What on earth is going on here?

Krahl and Lieberknecht can't believe what's happening and are protesting to the referee. Because Lieberknecht doesn't stop after receiving a yellow card, he's even sent off! What a crazy end to the half...

It doesn't look like a goal is coming at the moment.
44'

Not much of a spectacle

Both teams are currently unable to find a way forward. The defensive lines remain solid.
39'

Big chance wasted

Suddenly two Paderborn players are running towards a Lautern player, and are able to dispossess him. Bätzner looks to be through on goal, but he slips slightly, and Krahl is able to clear the ball.

Paderborn counter

It's a promising move, but Marino can only shoot the ball wide of the goal. The direct path to the goal was blocked.
36'

Crossbar

After a gust of wind blew the ball away, Skyttä has to place the ball again. Then he crosses the ball directly onto the crossbar. A follow-up shot flies wide of the goal.
35'

No Way Through

Lautern try again down the right. After losing the ball, they quickly win it back. But for now, it's only enough for a corner-kick.

Good sportsmanship

Krahl is back on his feet and Marino goes straight to the goalkeeper to apologise. One could never accuse him of intent with that sliding tackle.
25'

Loose touch costs Marino

Marino dribbles with pace through the Kaiserslautern defence. But then he pushes the ball too far ahead and tries to slide in to reach it. In doing so, he also catches Krahl, and gives away a free-kick.

First Paderborn opening

The following corner becomes dangerous. At the far post, Götze tries to poke the ball into the net, but Şahin is there to clear it. Götze has hurt himself in the process and needs brief treatment.
12'

No danger

The hosts are able to clear a free-kick from Baur with a header. The second cross is also harmless.
9'

Gibs involved early on

FCK advance down the right side with the young debutant. Baur defends securely, though, and wins a goal kick.

Bundesliga 2 milestone

Kaiserslautern are playing their 500th match in the Bundesliga 2 today. Match number one was a 2-0 away victory against Stuttgarter Kickers on 7 August 1996 under manager Otto Rehhagel, with players like Andy Brehme, Harry Koch and Olaf Marschall. Uwe Wegmann scored both their goals that day.
camera-photo

Kaiserslautern debutant

Gibs has only six minutes of professional experience (substituted on twice). In the first half of the season, the 19-year-old (pictured on the right) played with the second team in the fifth tier in front of a few hundred fans against Eppelborn and Emmelshausen. Now he's set to run out in front of over 40,000. His older brother Neal was also in the matchday squad this season but hasn't made an appearance in the second division.
camera-photo

Kleinhansl gets his chance

Rising star Haas has established himself on the left and so Kleinhansl is usually limited to the substitute role. He is in the starting XI for only the second time this season, after the 0-0 draw in Bielefeld on Matchday 16.
camera-photo

Three missing for Lautern

In addition to already injured players like striker Ivan Prtajin, Torsten Lieberknecht has to do without three more players today. Captain Marlon Ritter (pictured) is suspended against his former club due to yellow card accumulation, while Jacob Rasmussen and Mika Haas are out. Atanas Chernev, Florian Kleinhansl and Owen Gibs are new to the team.
camera-photo

Bätzner replaces Klaas

There's only change for Paderborn compared to their big 5-2 win against Hertha as Nick Bätzner (pictured) comes in for Sebastian Klaas. Klaas had to come off injured before half-time last week, with Bätzner replacing him and scoring. He last started on Matchday 18 in Kiel.
camera-photo

Ralf Kettemann on facing Kaiserslautern

"They have very clear patterns of play and are very strong physically. With their passionate fans, it's going to be a big challenge for us. We need to be incredibly vigilant because anything can happen. We'll need to hold our own against them and build our confidence by keeping the ball."
camera-photo

Torsten Lieberknecht on facing Paderborn

"Paderborn have a lot of versatility. We won't worry about who is the favourite at the weekend. Everything is on a level playing field. We don't just look at the table, anyone can beat anyone. The psychological component then comes into play, especially at the end of the season when there are fewer matches left."

Recently it's been balanced

In the past 12 encounters, both teams have won six times each. The last time they shared the points was in November 2012 (1-1 in Paderborn).

Can they do it without Ritter?

Kaiserslautern's last victory against Paderborn was a 3-0 home win in October 2024, with Marlon Ritter - suspended this weekend after accumulating five yellow cards - on target against his former club.
camera-photo

How the tables have turned

Paderborn won only one of their first 12 encounters against Kaiserslautern, but recently their luck has changed. In their last seven matches against the Red Devils, Paderborn have celebrated five victories. What's more, Paderborn scored as many goals in the past two meetings (seven) as they did across the first 17 encounters.
