Full-time: Dresden 2-1 Düsseldorf

Dresden secure an important victory to collect crucial points at the bottom of the Bundesliga 2 table. Rossipal's magnificent strike before the break and Vermeij's composed chip put Dynamo on the path to victory in an evenly balanced match. Rasmussen's header gave the never-surrendering visitors hope deep into stoppage time - in vain. The drama surrounding Dynamo goalkeeper Grill, who suffered a severe knee injury, overshadowed an incredibly intense match, in which Casar had to go in goal as an outfield player late on for the hosts, but kept a clean sheet.

What drama!

Grill is lying on the ground in his own penalty area, having twisted his knee. Meanwhile, Fortuna's attack continues and Dynamo just manages to clear the ball. Afterwards, all Dynamo players rush to their keeper. A stretcher is being brought on.

Rasmussen!

The goalscorer for the 1-2 has the chance to equalise, but shoots the ball from the left side of the penalty area wide of Grill's right post. What a chance!

Goal for the visitors!

Rasmussen brings the visitors back into the game with a magnificent header coming in from the left. Now only 1-2 from Fortuna's perspective.

Huge chance!

76'

Dynamo applying pressure

The home side want to seal the deal and are pressing high, counter-attacking bravely. Only the final pass is still missing. Fortuna are currently struggling to find ways to get back into the match.
72'

First clean sheet?

Dynamo Dresden has not kept a clean sheet in any match this season. Will they manage it today?
68'

That must be the goal!

Grill can only clear a cross from the left side into the penalty area, where Suso has a clear sight on goal, but from 12 metres he only hits an opponent and then teammate Itten, who deflects the ball out for a goal kick. A huge opportunity given the empty goal.
65'

Within reach?

The hosts now have a 93.4 percent chance of winning thanks to their 2-0 lead. This wasn't necessarily expected at the start of the match. But there are still 25 minutes to go.

Grill uncertain

Muslija's free-kick is blocked by a header from the wall. Then Grill rushes out and wants to punch the ball away from the danger zone, which he fails in doing, but Dresden's goalkeeper is lucky that he can collect the ball on the ground at the second attempt.
60'

Good Position

Müller receives a booking after a foul about 27 metres in front of his own goal. Muslija is ready to take the free-kick.

Almost the decisive moment

After the corner, Dynamo counter-attacks rapidly and has numerical advantage in front of Fortuna's penalty area. Lemmer receives the ball on the right side of the box and does a lot right, shooting against Kastenmeier's direction of movement. But the ball narrowly misses the left post.

Düsseldorf are coming!

Schmidt shows fine technique after a free-kick into the Dynamo penalty area, leaving his opponent sliding into thin air before unleashing a powerful shot. The ball is just blocked for a corner, but it doesn't amount to anything.

Dynamo double their lead!

Vermeij initially struggles to control a cross from Hauptmann in the penalty area, but manages to sort his feet out just in time and skilfully chips the ball over the grounded Kastenmeier, who has no chance of making a save!

Nothing in it

Both teams are taking a safety-first approach here. Fortuna have had the better chances against a Dresden side who have rarely threatened in the final third, despite having the lion's share of possession.

Off the post!

Itten rises above Müller inside the area and sends a powerful header against the right-hand post! Best opportunity of the game so far.

Let-off for Fortuna

Daland collides with his own goalkeeper while attempting to shield the ball from Amoako, but the Dresden man is unable to capitalise on the misunderstanding as the ball rolls out for a goal-kick.

No way through

A Dresden corner is cleared as far as Hauptmann on the edge of the box. The Dynamo skipper's first two efforts are blocked by the Fortuna defence, with the third sailing high over the crossbar.

Struggle for control

Both teams are having problems keeping the ball in their own ranks. So far, neither team has been able to establish themselves permanently in the opponent's half either.

Good attempt

Amoako breaks through in Fortuna's half, but coming in from the left, he shoots well wide.
25'

Itten!

The first good moment from the visitors in this match. It's Itten who heads a cross from the right narrowly past the left post. That was a good move from Fortuna.
20'

Chance missed

The free-kick cross after Kastenmeier's foul fizzles out, as Düsseldorf can clear with a header at the near post. Shortly afterwards, there's another free kick for the home side just outside the left of the penalty area.
18'

Kastenmeier carded

Kastenmeier is way out of his goal again and this time concedes a free kick for a challenge. The referee then shows a yellow card, probably because Kastenmeier complained for too long after the decision.
17'

Too far

Iyoha crosses from the left with his right foot, but it goes too far.
16'

A bit bolder

The visitors are now trying to switch play quickly, but Itten can't reach a long ball and Grill in the home side's goal can easily collect it. Itten then needs brief treatment after being struck near his eye socket. However, it looks like last weekend's brace scorer will be able to continue.
13'

Alert goalkeeping

Kastenmeier comes out of his goal on the right to deal with a long ball from Dresden and smashes it decisively into the stands.
11'

Dominant Dynamo

The home side are controlling the game so far and looking for gaps in Fortuna's defence, which has remained solid up to now.
9'

What a chance!

Almost nothing had happened in Dresden until Herrmann struck the ball in a perfect position with his right foot 20 yards out, and his shot whistles just past the top right corner!
6'

Midfield battle

Both teams are flying into their tackles, but there has been no danger created in front of either goal so far.
4'

Very quiet

Both sets of fans are refraining from support at the beginning of this match due to the current debate among interior ministers about safety in stadiums.

Under pressure

With Braunschweig and Magdeburg taking wins this weekend, both teams are feeling the pressure today as the battle at the bottom intensifies.

Raimund starts

Fortuna coach Markus Anfang makes two changes to his starting XI compared to the last match (a 2-1 home win against Magdeburg): Raimund and Suso come in for Rasmussen (on the bench) and El Azzouzi (suspended due to yellow cards).

More on that Dresden side

Dynamo manager Thomas Stamm sends out the same starting XI that featured in the 2-1 win in Bochum last weekend.

Thomas Stamm on facing Fortuna

"Generally, I expect many balls played in behind the defensive line, which we need to defend hard but also cleverly, and if necessary, go for the second ball. We need a good performance from our back-line, we must protect each other and iron out mistakes."
camera-photo

Anfang knows both clubs

Markus Anfang was the manager at Dresden in the 3rd division from July 2022 to April 2024. In his first year, he missed promotion as the sixth-placed team by just one point. In his second year, Dynamo were top of the table for a long time under his guidance, then slipped to fourth place due to a poor run of form, and he had to leave four matchdays before the end.

Dresden with an advantage?

Düsseldorf have won only one of their last ten competitive matches against Dresden (four draws, five wins for Dynamo), but the last victory was special: Rouwen Hennings scored for Fortuna in the last minute to secure a 2-1 away win on 28 April 2018, which sealed Düsseldorf's most recent promotion to the Bundesliga on matchday 32.

Christoph Daferner

Daferner also scored in the last league encounter between the two sides, securing Dynamo's 1-0 home victory on 21 November 2021. In 17 competitive matches for Fortuna (first half of 2024), Daferner remained goalless and was also on the pitch during the dramatic relegation play-off against Bochum.

Blockbuster at Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion

Last season, Dresden, still as a third-division side, defeated Düsseldorf 2-0 in the first round of the DFB-Cup, with Christoph Daferner scoring the opener.
