Huge Hack chance

Suddenly it's two on two as the Foals race forward. Hack races into the box and has Ngoumou in support. Hack goes it alone and pokes wide of the far post. Had he squared the ball for Ngoumou, it was game over.

Gladbach come alive

Superb work from Nathan Ngoumou, who works the ball in for Marvin Friedrich. His shot is blocked but the ball works its way out to Ngoumou who sends in another centre. Jordan flicks a shot past the far post.

Lovely goal. Vagnoman picks up possession just inside the area, moves across the box and unleashes an unstoppable left-footed shot that curls past the outstretched hand of Nicolas and in.

Fine entertainment

This game is brilliantly poised now. Gladbach look threatening on the counter while Stuttgart are showing plenty of determination in their efforts to get back into the encounter.

Stuttgart have hit the woodwork an incredible 11 times this season, more than any other team. Deniz Undav has accounted for four of those.

Millot in the spotlight

Jordan returns

The hosts welcome USMNT international forward Jordan back to the fold, the 27-year-old Union Berlin loanee on the subs bench today following a month and a half on the sidelines with a muscle tear.

Watch: Bundesliga pays tribute to Franz Beckenbauer

The Bundesliga has been paying respect to the Franz Beckenbauer this weekend. It's been an emotional few days and today's teams will again honour the great man ahead of kick-off.

New deal for Anton

Some news out of Stuttgart today in that they've tied their skipper, Waldemar Anton, to a new deal. Anton joined the club from Hannover in 2020 and his fresh terms will extend his stay to seven years.

Are VfB serious title contenders?

Going into Sunday's action, VfB sit third in the league with a one point advantage over RB Leipzig after Die Roten Bullen claimed victory yesterday. A win for Stuttgart today would leave them eight back from leaders Leverkusen, while the Foals are hoping today is the start of their run on the outside for a European place.

Seaone's view on Stuttgart

"Stuttgart will be dangerous through their two wingers due to their pace and runs in behind. Our full-backs will definitely be tested, but as always we've prepared for the opponents in depth."
camera-photo

Hoeneß's view on Gladbach

“Away at Gladbach is just uncomfortable. They get great support from the fans and as far as the team’s concerned, they have very good individual quality on the pitch and have a footballing approach. Gerardo [Seoane] tries to play football and then you just have to get to grips with the guys who can play. I don’t hide the fact that I’d like Serhou [Guirassy] to be here to help us in the next few games, but he’s at the Africa Cup of Nations and we knew that. Now we’re obviously glad that the injury has proven to be not too drastic.”

camera-photo

Gladbach - the season so far

With 17 points from 16 matches under Gerardo Seoane, Gladbach have blown more cold than hot. The Foals have won just four times, and begin the year looking to end a three-game winless run. On the plus side, Alassane Pléa has found form, with five goals across his last eight appearances and a team-leading seven for the season. It all adds up to Gladbach being seven points clear of the relegation zone in 12th place, but with seven to make up on the European qualification berths.
camera-photo

Stuttgart - the season so far

The fact third-placed Stuttgart only survived via the relegation play-offs at the end of 2022/23 makes their efforts over the first part of the current campaign all the more remarkable. They also lost big players like Wataru Endo and Konstantinos Mavropanos during the summer, and yet have played some of the most eye-catching football in the division. Guirassy and Deniz Undav have led from the front with 26 goals combined, and the team have only shipped 19 at the other end, putting them fourth among the league's best defences. However, Guirassy will miss the restart after being called up to represent Guinea at the 2023 Africa Cup on Nations.
