Borussia's best player

Jonas Omlin has already made five saves today. This means he has saved more than one shot on target than expected (goalkeeper efficiency: 1.1).
85'

Fukuda misses

The young striker blasts across the face of goal from the left side of the penalty area.
camera-photo

Goal of the day?

Nmecha's strike has made the visitors happy so far. Will the Wolves' narrow lead hold in Gladbach?
81'

Crossbar pingpong!

After a corner from the visitors, the ball deflects off Gerhardt's shoulder onto the top of the crossbar of the Gladbach goal and even bounces on the crossbar again before going out for a goal-kick.
78'

Another brilliant save

Omlin distinguishes himself with another strong save, diving to keep the ball out of the bottom right corner.
75'

The goalscorer departs

Nmecha's work is done and he makes way for Behrens. Dardai also comes on for Majer. The final quarter of an hour has begun.
74'

Full risk

Koulierakis manages to prevent a through-ball into the Wolves' penalty area with a daring sliding tackle, but also catches Honorat rather roughly in the process. Nevertheless, an important challenge by the Wolfsburg player!
70'

Stöger hits the post!

Stöger wakes up Borussia-Park with a thunderbolt against the left post! The Wolfsburg goalkeeper would have been beaten there. Was that the wake-up call for the home side?
69'

Smooth

Grabara remains calm in his own penalty area and elegantly glides past the onrushing Čvančara. That was stylish!
67'

Triple substitution

The home side make three changes: Čvančara, Scally and Stöger are brought on to inject new energy into the Foals' game.
66'

Best chance...

...for the Foals in the second half. After a one-two with Lainer, Honorat breaks through on the right side of the penalty area and takes a shot. Grabara is there to save at the near post.
65'

Big blunder

Itakura plays the ball into the feet of the visitors in his own half, and Wolfsburg quickly switch play. In the end, Omlin is quick enough to rush out of his box to intercept the ball before Amoura latches onto it.
64'

Collision

Amoura catches Pléa in the face with his elbow during a challenge. The Wolfsburg player then lands heavily on the ground. Both players need to catch their breath, but then play continues.
61'

Amoura: Assist leader

With his exquisite outside-of-the-boot cross, Amoura provided a club-high ninth assist of the season.
camera-photo

Out of rhythm

Since conceding the opener to Nmecha, Gladbach have lost their rhythm.
56'

Nearly 2-0!

The visitors bear down on goal with a lot of momentum and Mæhle is allowed to shoot from 22 metres after a Wolfsburg corner. His shot whistles just wide of Borussia's goal.
53'

Favourite opponent

Lukas Nmecha also scored his third goal of the season against Mönchengladbach - he had managed a brace in the reverse fixture.
52'

Wolves at the door

Reitz loses the ball during build-up play and Wolfsburg quickly swarm forward. The visitors have gained plenty of confidence from Nmecha's goal and want to add to their tally immediately. However, Ullrich manages to clear the ball on the left side of Gladbach's defence for now.
camera-photo

Goooal!

Finally! The visitors take the lead through Nmecha. The Wolves' striker finishes off a superb outside-of-the-boot cross from Amoura, scoring from eight metres out with a bouncing shot. Omlin has no chance.

43'

Arnold!

The visitors' captain is allowed - like so many others today - to have a go from distance. Omlin is alert and parries the ball to the side.
41'

Huge chance!

The visitors have clearly taken command and counter-attack through Amoura, whose cross into the penalty area is just beyond Nmecha. There was much more potential in that!
38'

Crucial save!

Omlin is immediately called into action! The Swiss keeper strongly deflects a fierce long-range shot from Majer over the crossbar with one hand. Corner for Wolfsburg!
36'

Things that go bump

Omlin takes a knock and holds his neck. But some treatment from the medical team seems to help and the home team's goalkeeper can continue.
camera-photo

Good match

Rocco Reitz has contested the most duels of any player (17), throwing himself into every challenge. The Gladbach player is also making an impact offensively with some fine passes. So far, however, without breakthrough success.
31'

Target practice

This time it's Sander who takes a shot from 22 metres out, after a corner for the Foals. Grabara can only parry his powerful effort and is lucky that no Gladbach player is there for the rebound.

27'

Offside goal

Hack chips the ball over Grabara after a through ball from Reitz, and is about to turn away to celebrate, but the offside flag is correctly raised once again.
25'

Pléa again

Set through by Honorat, Pléa suddenly finds himself one-on-one with Grabara, but only manages to shoot straight at the Wolfsburg goalkeeper from a tight angle. The offside flag goes up in any case.
camera-photo

Full throttle

Both teams are only looking to push forward in the final match of the season. The only thing missing at Borussia-Park are the goals.
21'

Brilliant save by Omlin!

This time Weigl loses the ball just on the edge of his own area, and Nmecha can essentially pick his spot freely in front of Omlin. But the Swiss keeper dives lightning-fast to his right and manages to prevent what looked like a certain goal for the Wolves. Fantastic save by the Gladbach captain!
19'

Omlin makes the save

The home side's goalkeeper defuses a low shot from Majer, who had a clear opportunity to shoot from the edge of the penalty area after Reitz lost possession in his own box.
19'

Weigl over the bar

The Foals' midfielder has the next shooting opportunity, but he also misses the target from 22 metres out.
17'

Many attempts

Both teams seem to have something to prove in this final match of the season and are showing an attacking mindset. Five shots on goal from the Foals, three from the Wolves.
15'

Another chance

After a fine backheel pass from Hack to Pléa into the Wolfsburg penalty area, the Frenchman lays it off for Reitz, who blasts the ball over the left side of the Wolves' goal from 15 metres out.
14'

Sander takes a shot

Borussia counter-attack down the right flank and Sander gets a chance to shoot from 16 metres out in the penalty area. Grabara manages to parry his powerful shot for a corner with some difficulty. The corner is met by Lainer at the near post, but the Austrian heads it wide.
11'

Commitment

Neither side is holding back in the challenge. Itakura goes too far and concedes a free-kick at the halfway line.
10'

Nearly 1-0!

Hack plays Pléa through perfectly on the left side of the penalty area and the Frenchman fires a low shot to the far post. With just a fraction more curl, it would have gone in, but the ball fizzes wide of the upright.
9'

Close call!

Majer shoots first time from 20 metres out and curls it onto the roof of the Gladbach net. That was close!
7'

Wise Wolves

The Wolfsburg starting XI has an average age of 26.6 years, the oldest the Wolves have fielded in the Bundesliga this season.
5'

Down the right

The hosts are trying to advance down the right flank but, so far, Honorat's crosses are not finding their targets. Both teams are attempting to bypass the midfield quickly, and this could turn into a very entertaining match.
3'

Reitz on the front foot

The Gladbach midfielder chases after Nmecha and wins the ball just behind the half-way line with a strong physical challenge.
2'

First attempt on goal

Amoura, coming from the left, cuts in front of the Gladbach penalty area and blasts the ball about two metres wide of the left post.

First time in the senior squad

Eighteen-year-old right-back Jan Bürger is in the Wolfsburg senior squad for the first time. He usually plays for the Wolves' U19 team and is a German youth international (most recently U17).

The captain is back

There are three changes to the Wolfsburg starting lineup compared to last week. Captain Maximilian Arnold returns after serving his red card suspension, while Lovro Majer and Lukas Nmecha also start.

Itakura to start

There's another change in the Foals' starting XI compared to last week: Ko Itakura, who has also been struggling for fitness lately, returns to the starting line-up after missing one match, replacing Fabio Chiarodia.

Without Kleindienst

Tim Kleindienst is missing from the Foals' squad due to injury. Alassane Pléa takes his place in the starting line-up after having been on the bench at kick-off for the last two matches. Kleindienst thus ends the season with 16 goals.

Final matchday

The Borussia-Park is ready: At 15:30, the 34th matchday between the Foals and VfL Wolfsburg will kick off here.

The Foals welcome the Wolves

Just five point and two places apart, with exactly the same number of goals scored before today's game, there are plenty of similarities between these two side. They have also both been in with a shout for European football, although untimely dips in form brought those hopes to an end. For the hosts, 2024/25 represents a huge improvement, as they enter today's game already 11 points better off than last season. Wolfsburg sit in 12th, the same place they ended last season in, but are three points better off. Nine games without a win, and the consequent departure of Ralph Hasenhüttl, means there will be the slight taste of disappointment going into today's finale.

Daniel Bauer's thoughts on Gladbach

"We need to be far more proactive and consistent than we were against Hoffenheim. Keeping Tim Kleindienst under control will be crucial, and they are also very dangerous from the flanks. We have been working on dominating games and our tactical positioning, and hope that will lead to a positive outcome for us."
camera-photo

Gerardo Seoane on facing Wolfsburg

"Wolfsburg were looking for a fresh impetus when they changed their coach recently. During their last game against Hoffenheim, they played particularly well in the opening stages. They were physical, won a lot of tackles and had pace up front, all things they are known for. Maximilian Arnold, who controls their play, is available again this weekend after missing that match against Hoffenheim."

Wolves' set-piece threat

Wolfsburg have scored more goals from set pieces than any other side in the Bundesliga - 19.

Underwhelming form

Gladbach have not won any of their past six Bundesliga matches, while Wolfsburg are without a win in nine - a longer winless run than any other side in the league.
