Full-time: Heidenheim 0-2 Mainz

Mainz leave the Voith Arena with all three points thanks to goals from Burkardt and Weiper. It wasn't a game full of chances, but the visitors were certainly more effective going forward while their opponents looked short of ideas. The home side had enough of the ball, but didn't seem sure what to do with it, while Mainz seemed to possess the purpose that Heidenheim were missing with the ball.

Great save

Pieringer takes the ball down brilliantly before firing a half-volley toward goal, which Zentner reacts well to.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
After a fairly even first-half, Mainz have put some breathing space between themselves and the hosts.

Hammer blow

The second goal for Mainz will have knocked the wind out of Heidenheim so early on into the half. It'll now be an uphill battle if they're to get something from this game.

Half-time: Heidenheim 0-1 Mainz

In a half of limited chances, it's Mainz who go in ahead at the break. It was a very even contest throughout but Mainz managed to find a breakthrough and grew in confidence afterwards. Heidenheim looked short of ideas and didn't bounce back from going behind. There's still plenty to play for in the second-half, though.

Heading toward the break

With half-time fast approaching, it doesn't look like the hosts will find an equaliser before the whistle. Mainz have controlled the game after going ahead, meanwhile Heidenheim's confidence seems to have taken a knock.

Searching for control

The visitors have built on their opening goal and have dominated the ball since going ahead, and they look the more likely to get the next one.
31'

Almost another

Nebel gets to the byline and fizzes another ball across the Heidenheim six-yard area, but no-one is there to collect this time.

Frank Schmidt's thoughts on Mainz

"Mainz are an opponent who are having a good season and who will demand everything from us again. It's a game in which we must again make as few mistakes as possible, and that's why I'm convinced and hope that [victory in Copenhagen] will give us that push in this short recovery period that we have until Sunday evening to then take the points again in the Bundesliga."
camera-photo

Bo Henriksen's thoughts on Heidenheim

"We know what kind of game plan Heidenheim will bring with them. In Heidenheim it's difficult for any opponent. We've seen how they've only lost by one goal in the last three games and how they also won yesterday in Copenhagen. So we know that they will be a very tough opponent and that this game will be very difficult. We played out a 1-1 draw there last year. They will play long passes and win second balls and of course that's difficult, not just for us but for everyone."

Bogey team

Mainz have beaten all of the current Bundesliga teams at least once at some point - except Heidenheim. The 05ers have lost two and drawn one of the three meetings to date.
