Hložek well wide
The home side win the ball in the Union half after a period on the back foot. They work it to Hložek, who takes a pot shot from distance that bends away from goal even as it leaves his foot. The home side will need to do a lot better than this if they're to pull off a miracle here.

Leite down injured
The defender is caught on the upper thigh by a stray boot and goes down in need of treatment. Game paused.

Union fans are having a party
The noise from the away end has been deafening all game but it's gone up a notch in this second period, as Union have scored twice and looked like the only side in this match throughout.

Kramarić nods wide
Bischof scurries away from his marker and feeds a nice pass wide to the right flank. Chaves latches onto it and whips a cross in first time. Kramarić meets it with space inside the area, but he can only steer his header wide of the left post. The Hoffenheim bench grimaces in unison.

Chance for Hollerbach!
Union get forward quickly on the break and Jeong feeds a lovely ball forward down the left for Hollerbach to chase. He darts into the box and gets a shot away but he's under pressure from a defender and can only slice it wide.

Hosts on top
Hoffenheim have emerged for this second half with renewed purpose and have been camped out in the Union half so far. They've had a series of corners, none of which have produced any chances of note though.

Kramarić so close!
Hoffenheim launch their own counter. It's a three against three situation and the ball is eventually slipped into the path of a central Kramarić, who races into the Union box and tries to hit it over Rønnow. But the goalkeeper stays on his feet and denies the Croatian smartly.

Hollerbach just wide!
The winger races down the left flank and cuts inside his marker. He unleashes a shot but it's blocked straight back to him. He tries again but it slides narrowly wide of the left post. Philipp, well-beaten, watches it gratefully.

Hoffenheim dominating
The home side are knocking the ball left to right and back again, in search for an opening. But Union are camped deep and looking comfortable.

Union happy sitting deep
You always had the feeling the visitors would be happy to camp inside their own half if they took the lead and that is exactly what appears to be happening. The pressure is on Hoffenheim to score now.

Hoffenheim chance!
Geiger collects the ball on the inside right channel and slips an inviting pass in-behind the Union defence. Younsgter Moerstedt races onto it and shoots from a tight angle inside the area, but the looming presence of Doekhi gets back in time to block behind for a corner.

Penalty shout!
Khedira cushions down a high ball inside the Hoffenheim box and turns to shoot. His effort appears to have been blocked, at point-blank range, by a defender's arm – but it's down by his side and there was nothing he could do to move out of the way. No chance, says the referee.

Great defending from Geiger
Hollerbach beats his man down the left flank and cuts a wicked ball right across a crowded Hoffenheim area. It's begging to be smashed home but Geiger races back to volley a bouncing cross straight over his own crossbar. It wasn't pretty, by any word, but great defending.

All going to script so far...
As expected, Hoffenheim are dominating the ball in the early stages, with Bischof dictating play from deep. Union are looking to break with pace through Hollerbach on the left flank whenever they win it back.

Great ball from Hollerbach
The Union forward powers down the left flank before fizzing a dangerous ball across the Hoffenheim box. Nobody is there to meet it, however. Story of Union's season...

Bülter in the book
Bülter is shown an early yellow card for catching his opponent in the face with an elbow while challenging for a high ball.

Allergic to goals?
While defence has been pretty solid this season, Union Berlin have scored the fewest goals in the whole division, finding the net just 16 times in 20 games so far. Can newly-signed forward Ljbuicic (who starts on the bench today) help grease the wheels?
Tale of two defences
While both of these sides are languishing at the lower end of the Bundesliga, Union boast a far superior defence. The Irons have conceded just 27 goals so far this season (as few as second-placed Leverkusen), while Hoffenheim have shipped 40. Only the bottom three have picked the ball out of their own nets more often than the home side.
An unsettled side?
Østigård is the 33rd different player to feature for Hoffenheim this season, which is by far the most of any team in the Bundesliga and the most ever by TSG in a Bundesliga campaign, matching the 33 they used in the whole of 2012/13.
Union team news
It's just one change for the visitors from the side that held Leipzig last week as Wooyeong Jeong replaces László Bénes, who's ill.
Hoffenheim team news
The hosts made three changes from the team that lost 3-1 in Leverkusen last week. Leo Østigård is handed his debut, while Andrej Kramarić and Max Moerstedt come in up front. Robin Hranáč, Finn Becker and Erencan Yardımcı drop to the bench.

Home isn't where the heart is
Hoffenheim have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 30 Bundesliga home games and are now threatening to set a historically negative Bundesliga record: only Stuttgart (from April 2021 to February 2023) have managed to concede at least once in 31 consecutive Bundesliga home games.
