Fair result

It ends all square, and on balance, that is a fair result. The second half did not really come to life like the first had, with few chances of note, meaning both sides take a point apiece.

Close for Ndicka!

Casteels comes out and fumbles the ball to the feet of Ndicka. He tries to hook it towards goal, but cannot get his laces round it and the ball strikes the outside of the post!

Head to head

The referee pulls out the yellow card for Jakic and Paulo Otavio after both went head to head, while Arnold also gets a card for good measure. That's his fifth yellow card of the season, so he is suspended for one game.

Common result

If there is no change in the scoreline, this would be the fourth 2-2 draw of the season for Wolfsburg, who got that result against Bremen, Gladbach and Leverkusen.
75'

Lacroix injured

That is not a tactical change for Wolfsburg, with Lacroix's left knee heavily wrapped. He got his studs stuck in the turf when trying to block Kolo Muani's cross earlier, and that could be quite a serious injury.
72'

Goal ruled out!

A quick break with Kolo Muani terrorising Lacroix and cutting the ball back for Lindstrom, who turns it in from close range. The flag is raised, and the on-field offside decision is confirmed.

Too easy for Trapp

Gerhardt is already having his best season in terms of goals scored (6), and he could have had a seventh had he placed his shot a bit better there. Instead, it was straight at Trapp.
68'

First roll of the dice

Kovac takes the first roll of the dice, with Kevin Paredes coming on. This is his 13th appearance from the bench this season. Can he make the difference?

Gerhardt tries the dink

He was watching Marmoush in the first half, but Gerhardt cannot dink his effort past Trapp. First big chance of this second half for Wolfsburg, though,

This second half has hardly burst into life yet, and maybe the coaches are considering which changes they can make to spark the contest into life.

Kamada drive

The first shot of the second half is from Kamada, although he only hits a microphone behind the goal. Casteels probably had it covered.

Even in all aspects

The second half has started like the first, with both teams pretty cautious. It exploded into action in the first half, though, so we're waiting for the same to happen again.

Another check of the posts

Before the game resumes, the goalposts now defended by Koen Casteels were checked - they still seem to be a bit higher than they should be, but with four goals scored already, it does not seem like either of the teams really need a bigger goal to aim at. Will we see more goals in this half?

What a half!

More of the same in the second half would be a mouthwatering prospect, with Wolfsburg taking the lead and then Frankfurt responding well, with a stunning second goal. Wolfsburg dug deep, though, and deserved to level before the break. Don't go away! Okay, go and get a cuppa, but come back in 15 minutes!

Gerhardt has a go

Another good chance for Wolfsburg, Gerhardt sweeping a volleyed shot at Trapp, who makes the block low down. He scored last week, and almost scored again, having provided an assist already today.
38'

Marmoush dink defended

Marmoush again beats the offside trap to burst clear, and this time he dinks an effort past Trapp, but Tuta is covering and turns the ball behind for a corner before it can go in. This is a good spell for Wolfsburg.

xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
Neither of those two Frankfurt goals were easy, and indeed xG has them behind on expected goals, but you can expect the unexpected with Frankfurt.

Kolo Muani's goal was only his second headed goal of the season, while it was also only the second time Wolfsburg have conceded from a corner.

Unlikely strike

There was just a 7% goal probability about that sweet volley from Ndicka. The ball was still rising as it roared into the roof of the net. In German, they call such goals of rare beauty a 'Sonntagsschuss' - Sunday shot - and he's provided one, aptly on a Sunday.

Slow start

It has been a very cagey start to the game - perhaps Wolfsburg had not realised that the goal they were attacking was bigger than it should have been, although they launch the first attack now...

Moving the goalposts

The referee has spotted that the left-hand post of Kevin Trapp's goal is currently raised out of the ground. Out come the technicians to hammer it down... or rather, Trapp fixes it by swinging in the crossbar to pull it down.

Early team news

Sebastiaan Bornauw is back from suspension for the visit of Eintracht, while Lukas Nmecha should be fully fit to feature after illness. Bartol Franjic, though, is definitely out after tearing a hamstring in training. As for the Eagles, Evan Ndicka is in contention for a return to the starting line-up, as is Mario Götze who missed the loss to Leipzig last weekend. As well as scoring against RBL, Sow picked up a fifth booking of the season and is suspended.

Frankfurt were beaten 2-1 by RB Leipzig on Matchday 22, with Timo Werner instrumental for Die Roten Bullen and Djibril Sow's thumping effort proving to be just a consolation.

Defence the best form of attack

Wolves supremo Niko Kovac is hoping his defence can built the platform for more success today, and called on his team to kick on after chalking up a much-needed win last time out. "We have the joint-highest amount of clean sheets, so if we don’t concede then we always have the opportunity to win," he said during pre-match press duties. "I hope we continue in the same vein, build on last week’s performance and keep Eintracht at bay.”

Glasner: "It's going to be a proper battle"

It's safe to say that Frankfurt's coach is expecting a physical challenge from the hosts today. "They have an incredibly high work-rate, they close down spaces and are usually able to get a foot in too," Glasner told media this week. "It’s going to be a proper battle.”

Watch: Wolfsburg claimed a 1-0 win on MD6

Maxence Lacroix's only goal of the game earned Wolfsburg their first win of the season when they saw off Die Adler in the financial capital earlier on this term.

Wolves have their bite back?

As for Wolfsburg, they claimed a 2-0 victory at Cologne last week to end a four-game winless run (D1, L3). They had won six on the trot prior to their barren period and, by beating the Billy Goats, Wolves have kept their name in the hunt for a European place. They're five points off sixth going in to MD22.

Bad travellers

Frankfurt have struggled away from home this term and are five without victory on the road (D3, L2) after defeat at RB Leipzig last time out. Compare that with four wins on the bounce on home soil and you get why Oliver Glasner's outfit could have done without back-to-back away matches.
