NIAKHATE WIDE!

What a run from the Frenchman as he wins the ball at the edge of his own box and races up the pitch. No one can stop him and he reaches the Dortmund area before shooting across goal. He beats Bürki, but the ball rolls wide across goal.
86'

FINAL FIVE...

Dortmund and Mainz both still probing here. Zentner's goal has been quiet since Reus' penalty miss, but there's still time for late drama.
81'

END-TO-END STUFF!

Mainz have not given up on winning this game and are pushing forward themselves in the final 10 minutes. Either side could grab the winner here in this one.
78'

OH MY WORD!

Somehow it's not 2-1 to Mainz. They away side break and Burkardt has the ball in the area. His first shot is blocked but Latza gets the rebound and his shot hits the post. The ball rolls along the goalline and is cleared by Guerreiro in front of his own goal. Incredible stuff.
76'

REUS FIRES WIDE!

WOW! The captain steps up and drags the spot-kick wide of goal. Zentner had already dived the wrong way, but Reus puts too much power behind his penalty and it's still 1-1.
75'

DORTMUND PENALTY!

Meunier is now brought down in the Mainz box and a penalty is given. Video-Assist will check.
73'

MEUNIER'S FIRST FOR BVB!

Dortmund are level and it's Meunier with his first for the club. Moukoko sets it up by battling Niakhate to keep the ball in on the byline superbly. His cut back is cleared by Mwene but only as far as Meunier, who smashes it low into the bottom corner.

CAN SUSPENDED

A fifth yellow card of the season for Can and he will miss next week's game at Bayer Leverkusen.
67'

TOO TIGHT IN ATTACK

Dortmund's struggle now comes with Mainz happy to sit in deeper and defend on the last line. Sancho, Reus and Guerreiro are all looking to combine in tight spaces around the Mainz area, but it's proving difficult.

ÖZTUNALI'S ROCKET!

64'

OFF THE BAR!

Almost a second for Mainz as Latza curls in a free-kick and Hack beats Reus to meet it. He heads the ball down and it bounces up and over the top off the upright.
60'

ON COMES MOUKOKO

The 16-year-old forward is on in place of Can here. Terzic wanting to give his attacking talents as much time as possible to get Dortmund back into this one.
57'

MAINZ AHEAD FROM NOWHERE!

What an absolutely stunning opening goal from absolutely nowhere. Öztunali is sent away down the right and it looks like he'll be blocked by Hummels and Co. He cuts inside past Hummels and unleashes an unstoppable left-footed shot at goal. It floats into the top corner past Bürki diving across and Mainz are, incredibly, ahead!

THE BATTLE GOES ON

The only thing standing between Dortmund and the lead is Mainz's Robin Zentner so far.
53'

SECOND HALF LIKE THE FIRST

Dortmund on top at the start of this second half but yet to have a real chance on the Mainz goal. Pressure is building once more, though.
47'

HACK BOOKED

A rash challenge at the start of the first half on Reus and the Mainz defender is shown a yellow card.
46'

BACK UNDERWAY!

No changes at the break for either side and we're back underway for this second half.

ADDED TIME

We'll have three minutes of added time at the end of this first half.
44'

GOOD CHANCE!

Mainz push forward and Brandt fails to clear the ball properly. A loose ball falls to Quaison 25 yards from goal and he smashes it towards goal. Bürki is across well to parry that away with his first real work of the game.
41'

ANOTHER BIG CHANCE!

Sancho curls in a free-kick and it's met by Bellingham in front of goal with a free header. Somehow he can't angle it on target, and somehow the teen hasn't scored yet here.
40'

MWENE BOOKED

The first yellow card of the game is given to Mwene for a late challenge on Brandt.
39'

BIG CHANCE!

Lovely outside-of-the-foot ball from Meunier to Bellingham running in behind. He beats Zentner to it but can't get a good touch on the ball as he falls to the ground in the process. In the end, handball goes against him.
36'

GUERREIRO HAS A GO

Time and space opens up ahead of the advancing full-back and he goes for goal himself, but it's straight at Zentner for another save to add to his tally.

ZENTNER DOWN

A brave challenge from the goalkeeper as he grabs the ball from Haaland's feet on the run. He takes a kick to the face for good luck, unintentionally from Haaland, but he's taking treatment and will continue.
33'

BRAND THIS TIME

Dortmund opening up the Mainz defence here as Sancho finds Brandt in space on the edge. He fires a first-time shot at goal but Zentner makes a solid save.
31'

OFF THE POST!

That's the closest we've come to Dortmund's opener as Bellingham hits the post. Meunier is involved again as his cross finds Haaland in the middle. He goes to control, but his loose touch runs to the English teen. He controls and fires across goal, but it glances the outside of the far post.
31'

FUN FACT

For Dortmund fans getting worried that their side have not opened the scoring despite chances. BVB have scored 26 of their 31 league goals so far this season in the second half of games.

HAALAND THIS TIME

Tidy interplay from Dortmund around Mainz's area as Meunier is found in space running forward down the right. He plays the ball into the middle and Haaland meets it on the run, but with him moving away from goal it's tough for him to get power on his shot, and Zentner saves that one.
27'

BIG CHANCES!

Reus is found first by Guerreiro with a forced pass into the middle, but his shot is blocked away. Can does well to win it back quickly, however, and finds Reus running in behind once more. He goes to chip Zentner, but the Mainz 'keeper does superbly to get a hand on the ball and gather it.
camera-photo

BELLINGHAM BACK IN ACTION

Good to see Dortmund's 17-year-old English midfielder Jude Bellingham making his first appearance of 2021 in the Bundesliga.
24'

BIG CHANCE!

Mainz almost gift Dortmund the opener. Zentner's kick is blocked and falls to Haaland in front of goal, and he lays it off to Brandt to shoot. Zentner produces a good save to parry his effort away.
23'

GOING TO PLAN

Dortmund are controlling the ball and have been able to snuff out the majority of Mainz's counter-attacking charges once the away side have won the ball back. High-pressing from BVB is also making life difficult for the Mainz defence.
19'

LATZA ON TARGET

A bright moment for Mainz as they get themselves forward. Burkardt finds Latza on the edge of the Dortmund box but his shot is well saved by Bürki low to his left.
18'

DORTMUND'S BALL

The home side are controlling the tempo of this game, but so far Mainz have restricted them to just one chance on goal which Haaland did convert, only for it to be ruled out afterwards.

FINDING THEIR WAY

There's a lot of possession in this game for Dortmund with Mainz sat in defending first. It'll be up to the likes of Sancho, Reus and Brandt to find small spaces within the Mainz defence.
12'

REUS ON TARGET

After winning a free-kick just outside the Mainz area, Reus takes it himself. It's beaten the wall but doesn't have enough power to cause problems for Zentner.
10'

FIRST CHANCE!

Mainz push forward well and a switch of play finds Öztunali in space on the right. He lays in Burkardt, but it's a tough angle for him to shoot from and his effort brushes the side-netting of Dortmund's goal.
9'

SITTING IN

It's a three-man defence for Mainz but with Dortmund in control of the ball, Mwene and Öztunali are sitting in almost as full-backs as well. They will be looking to work on the counter here.
6'

STARTING WELL

Dortmund certainly look up for this, with precision-passing and quick movement forward with the ball. That Haaland goal was beautifully worked, too. Mainz with work to do already.
2'

HAALAND GOAL RULED OUT

Almost the perfect start for Dortmund. Meunier cuts the ball back to Reus from the right and he lays it off with his one touch to Haaland who fires it across goal into the far bottom corner. Video-Assist has spotted an offside, though, with Meunier just straying behind the Mainz defence when the ball was played and the goal is ruled out.

WATCH: LAST SEASON - BVB 0-2 MAINZ

The away side today certainly know how to get points from a trip to Dortmund, as they showed last year...

NOW OR NEVER?

Mainz's six points and 11 defeats from the opening 15 matches of the campaign are two negative records for the club in the top flight. The ZeroFivers sit bottom of the table and five points off Cologne in the relegation play-off spot. There's still plenty of time in the season, but Mainz will want to get out of this tough position sooner rather than later.

SANCHO AND REUS IN SUPPORT

Marco Reus has only scored more goals against Werder Bremen (14) than Mainz (12) in his Bundesliga career. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho has scored in back-to-back Bundesliga games having gone without scoring in the opening 13 weeks of the season.

WATCH: HAALAND'S RECORD FIRST 25 BUNDESLIGA GOALS

No player in the history of the Bundesliga has scored 25 goals in as few games as Dortmund's Erling Haaland. Here are all of them in one place for you to enjoy.

THE BOGEY TEAM AT IT AGAIN?

Mainz have won two of their last three visits to the Signal Iduna Park having gone winless in each of their first 11 trips to Dortmund beforehand.

BVB BACK?

Dortmund have won four of their 5 competitive fixtures so far under interim coach Terzic since he took over from Lucien Favre.

BVB TEAM NEWS

Witsel will be out for the foreseeable future, which opens a spot in midfield for the likes of Can, Brandt and Bellingham. This weekend it's Can and Bellingham, who comes in for Delaney having returned to team training this week. Brandt also comes in to start on the wing with Reyna not involved due to a mild throat infection while Zagadou starts ahead of Akanji.

MAINZ TEAM NEWS

Burkardt and Mateta were the heroes last season when Mainz took all three points from the Signal Iduna Park in a 2-0 win. Mateta has been on the bench for three of the last four league games, and it's the same again for him this afternoon with pace preferred in attack. We'll have to see if it's a three or four-man defence for the away side this afternoon, with three central defenders in the line-up.
