The visitors have dominated the ball, having close to 70% possession throughout the first half, and while they're in the lead and have had a handful of promising openings, they haven't had things all their own way. Freiburg are given a free-kick about 30-yards out and Schmid looks like he's going to shoot, but Günter takes it instead, looking for Waldschmidt at the back post. He over hits it though, and the ball bounces out for a goal kick.

Günter outmuscles Hakimi wide on the Freiburg left and immediately sprints forward. He gets to the edge of the Dortmund box and squares it to Waldschmidt, who unleashes a brilliant first-time shot that whistles into the side netting.

The defender clutches his face after heading a Dortmund free-kick clear, having also taken a boot to the nose from teammate Höler. It'll take more than that to keep him down, though, and after a brief pause for treatment he's up and running again.

Delightful one-touch passing from Dortmund around the Freiburg area and eventually Götze spies Brandt's run behind the defence. He plays a brilliant chip towards the back post and finds Brandt, who is completely unmarked with only Schwolow to beat. Surely he must score... but he can't keep his header down and it sails over the bar. The Germany international holds his head in disbelief.

A Dortmund attack breaks down as Brandt and Reus are crowded out on the edge of the Freiburg box. The hosts immediately spring into life and try to launch a counter-attack, but although Günter darts into space wide on the left he is forced to go backwards and the move breaks down.
