Full-time: Regensburg 2-2 Karlsruhe

Karlsruhe were the dominant team for long stretches and deservedly took the lead twice - through Wanitzek and Burnić, who both scored from distance. Regensburg grew into the match, notably after the break, and fought hardto get a result. Two set-piece goals ultimately brought the already relegated Regensburg a point and a conciliatory farewell to their own fans after a disappointing season.

VAR intervenes

The ball to Ganaus was quite far ahead. Presumably, Ganaus wouldn't have been able to reach it. That's why referee Weisbach corrects himself and rescinds the red card.

Last man tackle

Beifus brings Ganaus down just outside the penalty area and is shown a red card. In addition to the sending off, there's a free-kick from a half-right position for Jahn.

Three minutes of added time.

Karlsruhe want the victory

KSC establish themselves once more in the Jahn penalty area, but there's no one on the end of Günther's cross.

Double substitution

Both teams make changes. Can some fresh faces help score the winning goal?
82'

Ballas stands perfectly positioned

Wanitzek is not challenged on the edge of the Regensburg penalty area and shoots from a central position. Ballas blocks the shot just in front of the goal line and thus prevents his team from falling behind.
78'

Burnić from distance

Karlsruhe seem a bit short of ideas in this phase and are only managing shots from distance, rarely troubling the keeper.
75'

Can Regensburg push on?

KSC are not offering enough in this phase, and Jahn are increasingly taking the game to the visitors.
70'

Opportunity squandered

The visitors have the numbers on a counter-attack but Wanitzek shoots somewhat hastily wide of the left post despite having passing options. There was much more in that move!
67'

Another set piece!

And the following corner leads to the equaliser! Handwerker delivers the ball to the near post and Hottmann powers a diving header in at the near post. The set-piece specialists from Jahn have struck again!

Karlsruhe under pressure

Corner for Regensburg. The first attempt is cleared. Then Kühlwettter shoots again from distance, but the ball gets stuck in the crowd. In the end, KSC manage to clear for another corner.
62'

Adamyan!

At the other end, substitute Adamyan winds up from a half-right position at the edge of the penalty area and only just misses the frame. So close!
61'

Again from distance

Wanitzek lays it off for Burnić, but his shot from about 18 metres goes well wide to the left.
58'

Attacking changes for Jahn

Suhonen and Adamyan are brought on to increase the pressure on the KSC defence.
56'

That was close!

Jung sends Egloff on his way. He looks for Conté with a square pass but, at the last second, Wurm is there and nicks the ball off Conté's foot.
55'

Hard tackle

Poor timing from Egloff. The attacking player is far too late in the challenge with Ernst and rightly receives a yellow card.
52'

Next opportunity

Handwerker gets a shot off in the penalty area after a cross from the right, but Rapp throws himself in front of the ball and blocks it. Jahn are now clearly much more active.
51'

Pivot Point

Much of KSC's play is going through Wanitzek. The scorer of the opening goal is repeatedly finding solutions when under pressure.

Regensburg pushing for the equaliser

Hottmann stroms straight through midfield, isn't properly challenged and suddenly finds himself relatively unmarked in the KSC penalty area. However, his finish from about 14 metres is off target, with the ball going wide of the left post.

Jahn show attacking intent

Ganaus breaks through on the right wing and delivers a sharp low cross into the centre. Hein arrives a step too late.

Half-time: Regensburg 1-2 Karlsruhe

KSC take a deserved lead over Jahn into the break. In a match that was uneventful for a long time, two wonder strikes put the visitors ahead on both occasions. Regensburg temporarily equalised from a set-piece, but then Karlsruhe stepped up a gear and were closer to scoring a third goal than Jahn were to equalising again.

KSC Power Play

Karlsruhe are pushing for a third goal. Wanitzek sets up Egloff on the right side of the penalty area. His finish, however, is wayward. Shortly after, Wanitzek fires a free-kick from a dangerous position but his shot cannons into the wall.

Precision puts Karlsruhe in the lead

information
xGoals
The xGoals value of a club is calculated from the sum of all goal probabilities (goals and shots on goal) of that team. During a match, it’s easy to see whether the club is performing better than expected (goals> xGoals) - or maybe even higher (xGoals> goals).
The fact that KSC are leading here is thanks to the shooting accuracy of Wanitzek and Burnić. The xGoals value of the two goals was only 5% (Wanitzek) and 3% (Burnić).

First booking

Goalscorer Burnić steps on Ernst's foot during a running duel and is rightly shown the yellow card. It's the 14th booking of the season for the Karlsruhe goalscorer.
37'

Pollersbeck prevents a third goal

At the other end, KSC have a huge chance to make it 3-1. Conté strongly asserts himself against Wurm and Ballas in the Jahn penalty area. Jahn keeper Pollersbeck makes himself big for the one-on-one and manages to deflect Conté's shot past hte poat with his foot from close range.
36'

Jahn trying to make an impact in attack

Handwerker looks for Hein with his low cross at the near post, but the ensiuing finish ends up in the side netting.
32'

Another long-range rocket!

Out of nowhere, KSC take the lead again. Burnić plays a one-two with Conté in the centre before letting fly from nearly 25 metres out. The well-placed shot is unstoppable for Jahn keeper Pollersbeck and it flies into the right corner.

Karlsruhe in control

Karlsruhe are taking increasing control as the match progresses, also doing well when not in possession and putting early pressure on Jahn.

How will Jahn respond?

Karlsruhe's taking the lead came as something of a surprise - both teams has been playing rather cautiously in the opening minutes.

First shot on target, first goal!

KSC combine their way into the penalty area via Jung. Conté lays it back to the edge of the box, where Wanitzek takes aim and rifles the ball unstoppably past Pollersbeck via the inside of the far post. Ice-cold from the in-form attacking midfielder.

The ball is rolling in Regensburg!
キックオフ

Raychouni makes one change

Jahn's interim coach largely trusts the team that earned a point in Cologne and makes just one change: Bulic is in for Ziegele (bench).

Two changes for KSC

Egloff and Beifus start in place of Jensen (suspended due to yellow cards) and Ben Farhat (bench).

Karlsruhe starting XI

Weiß - Kobald, Franke, Beifus - Jung, Burnić, Rapp, Herold - Egloff, Wanitzek - Conté

Regensburg starting XI

Pollersbeck - Wurm, Ballas, Bulic - Ananou, Kühlwetter, Handwerker - Ernst, Hein - Ganaus, Hottmann

What interim coach Munier Raychouni said

"Karlsruhe is a technically strong team that relies heavily on possession and has recently been dangerous from set pieces."

What Christian Eichner said

"The team sitting 18th in the table showed a very, very good performance in Cologne last weekend, which impressed me a lot. If we're not alert there, we'll be in for a rude awakening."

Play-off joy

In 2012, Jahn celebrated promotion to Bundesliga 2 by beating Karlsruhe in the two-legged play-off on away goals.

Previously...

The visitors won 6-0 on their last trip to the Jahnstadion in August 2022. Karlsruhe's first away victory in Regensburg since 1974 was doubly historic, as it was their biggest on the road and Jahn's heaviest home defeat in Bundesliga 2.

On a roll

Karlsruhe have won the last three meetings and are unbeaten in six games against Jahn (W3, D3).

Turnaround

Regensburg led twice in the reverse fixture, but Karlsruhe prevailed 4-2.
