Full-time: Cologne 1-0 Schalke
With their sixth 1-0 victory of the season, Cologne successfully maintain top spot in the Bundesliga 2. Across an extremely tight match, the Billy Goats benefitted from an individual Schalke error leading to the winning goal. Thereafter, it was an evenly balanced game with chances on both sides. On balance, Cologne's win is probably deserved.

Karaman can't reach it!
Huge chance: Antwi-Adjei crosses from the left side to Kalas, who heads the ball against Schwäbe's direction from five metres out. Karaman then tries to poke the ball over the line, but can't quite reach it with his toe!

Cross or shot?
The nimble Maina is off and away once again, outpacing his opponent on the left before cutting inside. From the edge of the penalty area, he aims for the far corner, but his attempt is neither a shot on goal nor a cross and goes wide right by several metres.

Half-time: Cologne 1-0 Schalke
Neither team is playing well, here. Few shots on goal and a terrible pass completion rate on both sides tell a pretty accurate story. Aydin's mistake before Downs' goal has proved the only difference in this match so far. But everything's to play for. We'll be back shortly!

Gerhard Struber on facing Schalke
"We're facing one big challenge after another. Now the next one lies ahead of us, and that's where our focus is. We're taking many good things from the cup fight, and at the same time, we need to lift ourselves and look forward to the next highlight."
Successful striker
Tim Lemperle has scored in his last two matches against Schalke (for Cologne and Fürth).
Schalke also with good memories
Schalke's last league victory against Cologne was a 3-1 away win under André Breitenreiter in March 2016. Since then, however, the Royal Blues have prevailed twice more against the Billy Goats in the DFB Cup (1-0 at home in 2017, away on penalties in 2018).
Favourite opponents
Cologne won the reverse fixture 3-1 and have not lost any of their last 11 league matches against Schalke (six wins, five draws). Effzeh have claimed more victories against the Royal Blues (40) than against any other team in the Bundesliga.
A match with Bundesliga feel
After 90 Bundesliga encounters, these two giants are playing together in Bundesliga 2 for the first time this season.
