Fortuna celebrate a lucky home victory. While the 2-1 half-time lead was at least slightly deserved, the hosts had Ulm's poor finishing to thank. After going 3-2 up with a penalty, Düsseldorf did far too little, but Ulm failed to convert their second-half dominance, squandering a raft of chances from promising positions. Seventeen shots (to Düsseldorf's seven) were not enough for Ulm to clinch a point.

There will be five extra minutes. Fortuna have already survived one of them.

There's a bit of a lull right now, so it's time to celebrate Kownacki again. His third brace in the last six matches! Kownacki now also has four goals in the three matches since the winter break - only Ulm's Telalović has scored as many in 2025.

The equaliser had been on the cards -Ulm had come out better after the break. Düsseldorf looking sloppy.

In their last two home matches, Düsseldorf were also ahead at half-time (1-0 against Darmstadt - final score 2-2, 2-1 against Magdeburg - final score 2-5) - but only managed to get one point in the end. Ulm, on the other hand, lost all four matches where they were trailing at half-time. Can either side buck their statistical trends today?

We're back under way. Fortuna have made one substitution, Zimmermann replacing Fridriksson.

Ulm started confidently with a lot of dynamism and possession. Against the run of play, Jóhannesson put the hosts ahead with a spectacular long-range shot. Unfazed, Keller equalised for Ulm. Just a minute later, Kownacki was on hand to restore Fortuna's lead. After that, the game became less intense, partly due to several interruptions following some fierce challenges. The hosts are the slightly better team are deservedly in front.

Reichert falls on his head after a challenge and is now being treated on the pitch. The match resumes after a minute.

After a volleyed shot from the edge of the Ulm penalty area, a potential handball is reviewed. However, play continues. The Fortuna defender's arm was tucked in.

Barely has play resumed, and a Düsseldorf player is down on the ground. Many fierce tackles are leading to brief interruptions.

The match has already been interrupted for a minute due to an injury to Rösch.

Kwarteng crosses from the right. In the middle, Pejčinović does well to get through and heads the ball just over the crossbar. After overcoming a meniscus injury, the bright talent is finding his form as the season has progressed.

By making it 2-1, Kownacki scored his sixth goal in the last six matches - before that, the Pole had only scored twice across the first 14 matchdays.

With nearly 70 percent of duels won and possession, Ulm have surprised their hosts with a dominant approach in the first five minutes.

80 years ago, on 27 January 1945, the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp was liberated. German football has been commemorating this event for more than 20 years, remembering the people persecuted, deported and murdered by the Nazis on matchdays around 27 January.

Daniel Thioune makes two changes. New signing Heyer, with whom the manager has already worked in Osnabrück and Hamburg, is immediately in the starting lineup. Additionally, Pejčinović starts up front alongside Kownacki. They replace Hoffmann (on the bench) and Rossmann (not in the squad).

"The victory in Karlsruhe gave the lads something. Before that, we had one win from nine matches. Ulm also had this confidence boost last weekend. It will be important to approach the game patiently. We will have to play against an opponent, who has the second-best defence in the league. The reverse fixture was already difficult enough, and the best thing about that game was the result."

Ulm have loaned midfielder Julian Kudala to Schweinfurt. The 24-year-old will play in the Regionalliga Bayern (fourth division).

Fortuna Düsseldorf have terminated the loan of Hoffenheim's Joshua Quarshie. The centre-back will be immediately loaned out by TSG to Greuther Fürth.

The Sparrows are now guests in Düsseldorf for the first time in over 25 years. On 8 August 1999, Ulm, as a Bundesliga side, won 2-0 against third-tier Fortuna in the DFB-Pokal, with goals scored by Tamas Bodog and Hans van de Haar. Sascha Rösler, who is now Düsseldorf's Head of Licensing, was on the pitch for SSV at the time.

When they faced each other earlier in the season, Düsseldorf turned around a 1-0 deficit in the closing stages thanks to two substitute goals (Dzenan Pejcinovic in the 81st minute, Danny Schmidt in the 82nd) to win 2-1.

In the eight competitive matches between Düsseldorf and Ulm so far (five times in the Bundesliga 2, three times in the DFB-Pokal), there has always been a winner: Fortuna won five times, Ulm three times.
