Leipzig - VfL Wolfsburg's Max Kruse was understandably a happy man indeed after scoring the goal that sealed Germany's place at UEFA EURO 2016 in France next summer following Sunday's 2-1 win over Georgia in Leipzig.
bundesliga.com rounds up the best of the post-match reaction from the Red Bull Arena...
Max Kruse (VfL Wolfsburg): "We’re delighted to have won the game. We don’t want to overplay the fact we missed a lot of chances but we also know we need to be more clinical. The coach told us to give it everything we have and we eally wanted to win. When I came on I managed to hit the ball well and I’m happy it went in. It’s tough to play against teams who sit deep. We need to find something extra though. But now we’re happy with the win and looking forward to the tournament."
Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern München): "I don’t quite know why we struggled. We score lots in training but we’ve struggled in the last two games against Ireland and Georgia. We’ve been lacking that killer instinct. For the goal we conceded, we weren’t alert enough and it was too easy for them to score that goal. We’ll play against different teams in the tournament who'll give us a bit more space., though."
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund): "At the end of the day, we’ve qualified for the tournament and that’s important. There were a few nervy games in the qualifying campaign in which we could have played better, but we’ve done a good job to make sure we’ll be there in France. We could have been more clinical tonight but you face teams that sit deep and make things difficult for you. There are things we need to work on but we’re delighted to have qualified."
Ilkay Gündogan (Borussia Dortmund): "It was a similar situation to recent weeks and when we went out for the second half it was all about scoring the goal, while having to stay aware defensively. We conceded a silly goal after opening the scoring and there’s a clear need to improve in a few areas. We still have tim to do that ahead of the EUROs and there are some good friendlies to come against some good sides. We could have used the flanks a bit more but it’s never easy against this sort of opposition, they hardly give you a centimeter in which to play. Fortunately, Max [Kruse] took his goal perfectly."
"All's well that ends well!"
Joachim Löw (Coach): "Firstly I’m happy that we won the game and that we’ve qualified, but we have a lot of work ahead of us. We had lots of great chances that we didn’t take, and it was a similar story to the Ireland game. We made it hard for ourselves this evening. At the moment we have the problem that we can’t finish teams off or punish them. We’re very good in the middle third of the pitch but we’re lacking that cutting edge to convert our chances."
