FC Bayern München's Thomas Müller will lead Germany out to face Italy at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday when they will look to bounce back from their weekend defeat to England (kick-off 20:45CEST/18:45GMT).

Die Nationalmannschaft let a two-goal lead slip against England to lose 3-2 in Berlin on Saturday, and coach Joachim Löw is expected to ring the changes, with FC Bayern's Mario Götze in line for his first start since last October's UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying Group D 1-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland.

Report: Germany stunned by England fightback in Berlin

Fellow Bundesliga stars Julian Draxler of VfL Wolfsburg and Bayer 04 Leverkusen's Karim Bellarabi should feature having remained on the bench against England, though captain Bastian Schweinsteiger has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury and is a serious doubt for the finals this summer. With the Manchester United FC midfielder Löw's first-choice to lead the side, the captain's armband is up for grabs.

Khedira: 'plenty of leaders'

"It's an honour to lead Germany out as captain," said former VfB Stuttgart man Sami Khedira, who led the side at the Olympiastadion. "Bastian Schweinsteiger is the captain of the team, but people are acting as though he has retired. In Manuel Neuer, Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller, we have plenty of leaders in the team."

Neuer had been in line for his 65th cap, and would have been a candidate for the captaincy, but the FC Bayern goalkeeper - who turned 30 on Saturday - is out with a stomach bug. Khedira is confident a heavily-rotated Germany side can prevail against the Italians.

"We want to use these matches," said the Juventus midfielder. "We're determined to win against Italy. We also intend to put in a top performance, and there are plenty of players who still want to prove themselves."

Italy promise to provide stiff opposition. The Azzurri are unbeaten in six games against Germany, and were unlucky to draw 1-1 with current European champions Spain last Thursday.
