VfL Wolfsburg were satisfied with a job well done following their 1-0 win at home to KAA Gent on Tuesday night that ensured the Wolves a first-ever place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
Goals: 1-0 Schürrle (74')
Andre Schürrle (Wolfsburg midfielder): "It was a tough game. We didn't do that much with the ball, but we knew Gent had to take the initiative after the first leg. We defended well and we scored a good goal. We're playing as a team at the moment and we've won three in a row now. We're delighted to be in the next round."
Julian Draxler (Wolfsburg midfielder): "It feels great. The team worked really hard. We've come a long way as a team and it was really important to see it through. It wasn't easy. We had a good position going into the game but we waited a bit to see how they would play. We kept control of the game well, though, and I think we deserved it. The coach asked if I could carry on at half-time - my thigh thankfully felt a bit better. I'll see if I'm fit for the weekend at Hoffenheim. I hope so."
Max Kruse (Wolfsburg striker): "It was the perfect night. We knew it would be tough, but we played well over long periods and exuded confidence. It was a bit easier than we thought. I think they watched our game with Gladbach and knew how to play, but we did well to break them down. Schürrle's goal came at a great time for us."
Klaus Allofs (Wolfsburg sporting director): "We've finally done it and it feels great. If you lead 3-0 and concede two goals it can be hairy, but we managed this game well. We'll see who we get in the next round later. For now, we can enjoy this."
