Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez scored his fourth and fifth goals in three games as Bayer 04 Leverkusen cruised into the third round of the DFB Cup with a one-sided 6-0 win away to Regionalliga West outfit FC Viktoria Köln.

Goals: 0-1 Brandt (15’), 0-2 Bellarabi (35’), 0-3 Hernandez (38’), 0-4 Hernandez (54'), 0-5 Kießling (80’), 0-6 Yurchenko (83’)

Leverkusen showed their intentions early on as Hakan Calhanoglu ticked the Köln side netting inside the opening 120 seconds. Hernandez headed wide, before Julian Brandt broke the deadlock with an assured finish in the 15th minute. Brandt was involved again as Leverkusen put the contest out of sight, the 19-year-old turning provider for Karim Bellarabi and Hernandez in a clinical three-minute spell.

The visiting fans were on their feet again nine minutes into the second half as Hernandez stuck away his second of the night following another fine run and pass from Brandt. Köln fell apart following Markus Brzenska’s sending off for two bookable offences, with further goals from Leverkusen substitutes Stefan Kießling and Vladlen Yurchenko underlining the gulf in class between the two sides.

Man of the match

Hernandez again takes the plaudits following yet another sprightly attacking display capped by a goal. The Mexico international understands Roger Schmidt's system and already has a fantastic understanding with his teammates.

Talking point

Leverkusen's goal-scoring troubles appear to be a thing of the past, netting 14 in their last three matches in all competitions.
