Wolfsburg - Goals from Bas Dost and Max Kruse sent VfL Wolfsburg top of their Champions League Group B in an impressive victory over PSV Eindhoven.

VfL Wolfsburg 2-0 PSV Eindhoven

Goals: 1-0 Dost (46'), 2-0 Kruse (57')

The home side started the game brightly, forcing two saves from Jeroen Zoet early on. Only after 15 minutes had gone did PSV begin to apply some pressure themselves, finding the gaps behind the Wolves' back line on a couple of occasions.

The visitors were edging close to creating some serious chances as the half-hour mark approached. However, Wolfsburg regained control of the game as half-time approached, and created three huge chances in as many minutes, Luiz Gustavo, Max Kruse and Bas Dost all failing to trouble the keeper from inside the box.

The latter gave Wolfsburg the lead immediately after the restart, though, tapping into an open net after Josuha Guilavogui's shot was saved by Zoet. Kruse added another 11 minutes later, heading in beautifully from a Daniel Caligiuri cross.

Wolfsburg continued to dominate for the rest of the game, looking dangerous on the counter attack and allowing Eindhoven very little at the back. Diego Benaglio gave away a late penalty with a foul on Jürgen Locadia, but saved his own blushes by saving the resulting spot-kick.

Man of the match

Caligiuri was a perpetual thorn in PSV's side until his substitution in the second half. Providing the assist for Wolfsburg's second goal, the attacking midfielder was tireless on the right-hand side.

Talking point

After finally opening his Bundesliga account with a hat-trick against TSG Hoffenheim 1899 last weekend, Kruse's scoring form continued in the Champions League. The Germany international had a difficult first half, sending many passes astray, but he kept on fighting and was rewarded with a goal in the second half.
