Leverkusen - Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez could hardly hide his delight after netting twice and then playing a key role as his Bayer 04 Leverkusen side staged a memorable late comeback to draw 4-4 with AS Roma at the BayArena on Tuesday night.

In an exclusive interview with bundesliga.com, the Mexican international discussed his two goals, his side's courageous display and die Werkself's upcoming Bundesliga clash with VfB Stuttgart...

bundesliga.com: Javier Hernandez, what a game this evening. What are your immediate thoughts post-match?

Javier Hernandez: We really wanted to win and take three points. Given the start we had you could see the result in a negative light, but the way we turned it round after going 4-2 down, scored twice late on and could even have won is very important. In the end though, it’s just as important that we stopped them taking the three points, which means that we now stay in second behind Barcelona.

Hernandez: I wouldn’t want to look at it in either way. I suppose we feel that we gained a point, after being two goals behind. But then again, we were also two goals ahead and at home. I suppose because we equalised late on it tastes a bit sweeter for us.

bundesliga.com: Talk us through those final moments…

Hernandez: It was really intense but we’re happy. I’m delighted we managed to score those two late goals. I suppose plenty of people might have thought that the game was over but we didn’t stop fighting and thanks be to God that we fought back late on.

bundesliga.com: You’re up against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga this weekend. How do you approach that one now?

Hernandez: Well it’s an important game. We’ll let the dust settle on this one first and then think about that one. We need to look at what we did well in this game so that we can do the same [in Stuttgart], but we also need to improve. We can’t afford to throw a lead like that away again and concede so many goals. Sometimes, though, football is like that and that’s why I love it.

bundesliga.com: And then in two weeks time, you’ve got a tough task in Rome. Do you need to take three points there?

Hernandez: Well, we’ll see. Today we’re thinking about this result, then tomorrow we’ll start preparing for Stuttgart. After that we’ll take things as they come.
