Augsburg - FC Augsburg suffered a chastening 3-1 home defeat to Partizan Belgrade on Matchday 2 of the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League.

Goals: 0-1 (Zivkovic 31'), 00-2 Ji o.g. (54'), 1-2 Bobadilla (58'), 1-3 Zivkovic (62')

Despite their indifferent Bundesliga form, Augsburg made a confident start to only their second European outing in the club’s history. Three very presentable opportunities fell the way of Raul Bobadilla, but the Paraguay international was unable to make any of them count and was duly punished as Andrija Zivkovic struck against the run of play to give visiting Partizan a surprise lead.

Bobadilla wasted another gilt-edged opportunity to send Augsburg in level at the break before finally getting on the scoresheet 13 minutes into the second half, albeit only after an own goal from Dong-Won Ji had doubled Partizan’s advantage. Augsburg goalkeeper Marwin Hitz had no chance as Zivkovic added a third, and while Partizan's Aleksandar Subic saw red moments later, die Fuggerstädter were unable to turn the tide.

Man of the match

Ji put through his own net, but that should not detract from an otherwise productive shift in attack.

Talking point

What a different story it could have been had Bobadilla taken one of those first-half chances. As it is, Augsburg sit bottom of Group L after two matches with a goal difference of -4.
