Die Werkself, who qualified for the group stage directly after finishing third in the Bundesliga last season, have a been dealt a tough hand, but aren't writing themselves off just yet.
Sporting director Rudi Völler said: "It's a very, very strong group and a difficult task. We've got nothing to lose and are underdogs. We will approach the group without fear and do everything in our power to qualify and make our fans happy."
"Our fans will get to see some strong and attractive sides at the BayArena," added skipper Simon Rolfes. "Manchester United are one of the best teams in Europe. Real Sociedad are also very strong and Donetsk are the best side in Ukraine. We have worked hard to play in these types of games."
