Wolfsburg’s new signing Renato Steffen has become the 6,000th different player to feature in the Bundesliga after coming off the bench against Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 18.
A Swiss cup and league double winner from last season, Steffen now already has a Bundelsiga milestone to his name just four days after joining the Wolves from Basel.
He’s the 86th Swiss player to feature in the Bundesliga, one of 106 different nations to be represented in the league. The first Swiss player to appear in the Bundesliga was Anton Allemann for Nürnberg in 1964.
The vast majority of the so far 6,000 players have naturally come from Germany (3807), with Brazil (147), Denmark (122), Austria (106) and Croatia (97) following.
