USA striker Josh Sargent will be given the opportunity to train with the Werder Bremen first team as early as next week, head coach Florian Kohfeldt has revealed.

Seventeen-year-old Sargent officially moved to Bremen at the start of the year and made his debut in a recent Under-23s' friendly match against Dynamo Dresden, setting up a consolation goal for Niklas Schmidt in a narrow 2-1 defeat.

Sargent, the reigning U.S. Young Soccer Player of the Year, who scored 19 goals for USA youth teams in 2017 and finished as the joint second-top goalscorer at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea last summer, will sign professional terms with Bremen when he turns 18 on 20 February.

The Missouri-born talent is the 51st American national to play for a Bundesliga club, following in the footsteps of U.S. contemporaries such as Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund) and Weston McKennie (Schalke).
