Nuremberg, Bayern Munich and the USA will all be keeping a close eye on Timothy Tillman in 2018/19 - but what's his story?

bundesliga.com trains the lens on the latest German-American dual national to scale the German football ladder.

Timothy Tillman

Age: 19
Position: Attacking midfielder
Club: 1. FC Nürnberg
Country: USA

Key stats

Tillman joined Bayern from Greuther Fürth in 2015, working his way up through the U17s and U19s before becoming a regular for the reserves. The 19-year-old racked up six goals and seven assists in 31 Regionalliga outings last season, form which has earned him a shot at regular first-team football with hometown club Nuremberg. The 5'9" winger has also turned out eight times in the UEFA Youth League and was named in the Bayern squad for the 2017 Supercup, but is yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for his parent club.

Plays a bit like: Kingsley Coman

A fleet-flooted winger of the inverted variety, Tillman loves to cut in from the left onto that nifty right foot of his a la Kingsley Coman. Like the Bayern man, he's also comfortable working his magic out on the right-hand side, and can even play through the middle as a second striker.

Did you know?

Despite representing Germany at every youth level from the U15s through to the U19s, Tillman is set to file a one-time switch with FIFA so that he can pursue an international career with the USA.

"He's told me he’s ready to join us," said U.S. U20s coach Tab Ramos earlier this year. "I'm excited to have him."

*Translation: "Here's our fourth new signing, just in time for the start of pre-season: Timothy Tillman joins Nuremberg on loan from Bayern. Welcome home!"

What they're saying

"Timothy Tillman is the biggest talent we have had for 30 years. His departure is a catastrophe for our club." - Greuther Fürth president Helmut Hack

"It doesn't matter if he's the provider or doing the shooting himself, Timi's razor-sharp in front of goal." - former Bayern U19s and reserve team coach Heiko Vogel

"We know he's been watched by the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but Timi wants to break through at Bayern." - Christian Rossner, Tillman's agent
