With the 2017/18 Bundesliga season almost over, it's time to honour the players who stood out from the crowd. Michy Batshuayi, Borussia Dortmund

The Belgium international made filling Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s diamond-encrusted boots look deceptively easy. The on-loan Chelsea forward’s explosive goal-fuelled start to life in Germany helped keep Dortmund’s bid for a top-two finish moving forward apace, with one premier-class striker seamlessly succeeding another. His injury-enforced end to the season cruelly cut short his stay at the Signal Iduna Park, which could have ended even more gloriously.

Sebastien Haller, Frankfurt

The powerful French forward is built for the bumps and bruises of the Bundesliga, dishing them out as often as taking them, as he showed in a stunning Hinrunde that saw him net six goals in his first 16 appearances in Germany’s top flight. The Rückrunde has been less bountiful, with the summer signing from Utrecht suffering a dip in form that has been shared by his team-mates.

Nils Petersen, Freiburg

Scoring goals is the most difficult skill in football, but finding the net consistently for a struggling team is a task of Herculean proportions. So take a bow, Nils Petersen, Freiburg’s very own version of the Roman god. He managed ten league strikes last term, but has bettered that mark this season. Where would Freiburg be without his goals? Their supporters will be trying not to think of that.
