Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski named Polish Player of the Year for 2017
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has been voted as Poland's Player of the Year for 2017.
It is the seventh consecutive year the 29-year-old has received the prize, which is awarded by the country's prestigious football magazine 'Pilka Nozna'. "It's a huge honour to win this for a seventh time," Lewandowski told the official Bayern website on Sunday.
The Warsaw native is captain of the Poland national team and set a European record en route to helping the side qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. "We've got a lot big things coming up this year," he said, eyeing the summer tournament in addition to going for the treble with Bayern.
Lewandowski underlined his reputation as one of the most feared forwards in the game by netting his 19th Bundesliga goal of the season in a 2-1 victory at home to Schalke on Matchday 22. In doing so he equalled a long-standing league record by finding the net in every home game so far this term.
