Switzerland international Ricardo Rodriguez says his time at Wolfsburg has left an indelible mark on his career, after agreeing a move to AC Milan.

The 24-year-old defender, who signs off with 149 Bundesliga appearances to his name, enjoyed five-and-a-half years at the Volkswagen Arena.

"I want to thank the fans, my teammates and everyone at Wolfsburg for an unforgettable and very successful time," Rodriguez said.

"We experienced and achieved a lot together. I developed here as a player, as much as a person, always felt very happy and made a lot of friends. Now, though, it's time for me to take the next step in my career."

After swapping boyhood outfit Zurich for Wolfsburg in January 2012, Rodriguez went on to register 22 goals and 27 assists in 184 appearances in all competitions for the Auto City club. He turned out nine times in the UEFA Champions League in a green shirt, helped Wolfsburg reach the quarter-finals of the 2014/15 Europa League and won the DFB Cup and Supercup in 2015.

"He's a shining example of how we develop young players," said Wolfsburg sporting director Olaf Rebbe.

"We wish him all the best on and off the pitch, and all the success for the future."
