RB Leipzig bounced back from their 1-0 loss to Sevilla in the first game of the Emirates Cup with an impressive 2-0 win over Portuguese champions Benfica. Marcel Halstenberg gave the Bundesliga runners-up the lead in the first half with a thumping effort from inside the box before veteran Marvin Compper ensured a deserved victory with a perfectly timed and placed header early in the second half. Benfica rallied late in the game as Leipzig tired, but they were unable to find a way past Ralph Hasenhüttl's men.
