FC Schalke 04 have completed the signing of Switzerland prodigy Breel Embolo from FC Basel 1893 for an undisclosed fee.

The 19-year-old, who featured in his country’s UEFA EURO 2016 penalty shoot-out defeat to Poland on Saturday, has signed a five-year deal in Gelsenkirchen.

Rated as one of Europe’s most promising players, the Cameroon-born Embolo made his first-team debut in March 2014.

He featured in eight UEFA Champions League games for Basel and 12 in the UEFA Europa League, and Schalke’s sporting director, Christian Heidel, is delighted to have acquired such a sought-after starlet.

"In Breel Embolo, we have secured a highly-talented striker who was wanted by a number of top European clubs and who has already accumulated a lot of international experience," Heidel said in a statement on Schalke’s official website.
