Having sealed their return to the Bundesliga, SC Freiburg have moved to bolster their defence with the signing of Turkey international centre-back Caglar Söyüncü from Turkish second-tier side Altinordu FK.
"Caglar is a young, very talented central defender," said Freiburg's sporting director Klemens Hartenbach. "His ball-winning ability and dynamic style particularly impressed us. It goes without saying that a young player needs time to settle in, but we firmly believe that a player of his potential will be of help to our defence relatively quickly."
Söyüncü only turned 20 on Monday, but having made his full Turkey debut in the 2-1 friendly victory over Sweden in March, the Izmir-born talent is confident his time at the Schwarzwald-Stadion will be a success.
"The city, the structure of the club and the positive impression that the coach left me with were the decisive factors in my decision," he said. "I will do everything in my power for the club's success. I cannot wait to play in front of these fans."
Söyüncü is one of four Bundesliga-based players in Turkey's provisional squad for UEFA EURO 2016, alongside Nuri Sahin (Borussia Dortmund), Hakan Calhanoglu (Bayer 04 Leverkusen) and Yunus Malli (1. FSV Mainz 05).
"Caglar Söyüncü swaps Turkish second division side @AltinorduFK for #SCF. Welcome, Caglar!"
