Cordoba on target as Mainz rout Klopp's Liverpool

Colombian striker Jhon Cordoba helped 1.FSV Mainz 05 christen their OPEL ARENA in the the perfect fashion, putting former coach Jürgen Klopp and his Liverpool FC side to the sword with a resounding 4-0 win.

Klopp, who led Mainz into the Bundesliga and then the UEFA Cup for the first time before leaving for Borussia Dortmund, returned with a strong team to help the 05ers celebrate the rebranding of their 34,034-capacity stadium.

At the other end, new Mainz goalkeeper Jonas Lössl shone for 73 minutes, and was delighted in his post-match interview. "[It feels] fantastic, really. It's amazing," said the recently capped Denmark shot-stopper. "The atmosphere out there today, the great weather… and to finish it of with a 4-0 [win], we couldn't have asked for more. [The fans] were amazing. It was really great to be there"

The result gives Mainz a welcome spring in their step before they kick off their 2016/17 Bundesliga campaign at Dortmund's SIGNAL IDUNA PARK on 27 August.
