All you need to know about Bundesliga traditionalists Eintracht Frankfurt.
- One of Germany’s oldest clubs, having been founded on 8 March 1899, Eintracht Frankfurt are one of the original members of the Bundesliga.
- Ninth in 2014/15 and boasting the Bundesliga's top scorer in Alexander Meier, Frankfurt needed the promotion/relegation play-off to secure their survival last season.
- Niko Kovac replaced Armin Veh at the Commerzbank Arena in March.
Despite boasting higher average attendances than both Paris Saint-Germain and FC Internazionale Milano in recent seasons, Eintracht Frankfurt continue to flirt between triumph and despair. A founding member of the Bundesliga, the Eagles were relegated four times between 1996 and 2011 - unthinkable for a fan base which had been brought up on famous European nights.
Promotion in 2012 under Veh, and immediate European qualification the following season left Frankfurt fans optimistic, but that came undone in 2015/16 with a 2-1 aggregate win over 1. FC Nürnberg in the relegation play-off required to guarantee their top-flight status. Kovac's appointment in March saw an upturn in fortunes, but with Meier now 33, finding another source of goals is a priority for Die Adler.
