- New Schalke striker marks debut with a goal.
- Recruit from Basel stars in bold three-man attack.
- 19-year-old tipped as good Fantasy recruit.
Coming in at 12 million, Breel Embolo may not be the cheapest of forwards for your Official Fantasy Bundesliga team, but his first official outing in an FC Schalke 04 shirt showed that he could nevertheless be something of a bargain.
Royal Blues coach Markus Weinzierl showed his summer recruit plenty of faith by giving him a lead role in their 4-1 DFB Cup win over FC 08 Villingen, and the former FC Basel 1893 forward did not let him down.
Playing in a bold 3-4-3 formation, the 19-year-old linked up well with fellow forwards Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Franco Di Santo, teeing up an early sight of goal for the latter before marking his debut in style with Schalke's second, underlining his poaching qualities which could make him a Fantasy snip.
He would have picked up points for an assist too, had the Villingen defence not been alert on two occasions to cut out inviting crosses. As it was, he got his win bonus and remained on the field for the full 90 minutes for even more points, all making him a neat Official Fantasy Bundesliga proposition with what would have amounted to seven points on his Schalke debut.
"We wanted to fill up on some self-confidence from this game and we've done that," said Embolo. "Of course we know we've still got a lot of work to do, but that's only normal. It was a decent enough start and we're working hard, wanting to take things step by step. It was a great experience for me personally to play my first game for Schalke and now we've got to take the next step against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. We've got a very ambitious team."
