New FC Bayern München coach Carlo Ancelotti enjoyed a successful home debut at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday as the reigning Bundesliga champions beat Manchester City 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.

There was a warm reception for former head coach Pep Guardiola prior to kick-off as the Catalan tactician returned to the club for the first time since leaving for City last month.

With several players still on holiday following their exertions at international tournaments this summer, both sides fielded largely experimental line-ups but Bayern still had Franck Ribery, Javi Martinez, Rafinha, Philipp Lahm and David Alaba in the starting XI.

Ancelotti's side enjoyed the better of the first half and could have gone in front, only for Alaba and then Julian Green to spurn promising chances when well placed.
