Borussia Mönchengladbach have agreed a deal to sign Jonas Hofmann from Borussia Dortmund when the transfer window opens on 2 January.

'Long-term improvement'

The attacking midfielder, 23, will sign a contract with the Foals until 2020.

"The addition of Jonas Hofmann will help compensate for the loss of wingers to injury during the second half of the season," said Gladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl. "However, we mainly see this transfer as a long-term improvement of our squad. Jonas has shown in Mainz and Dortmund that he is an outstandingly talented Bundesliga player."

The ten-time Germany U21 international spent the 2014/15 season on loan at 1. FSV Mainz 05 before returning to parent club Dortmund ahead of the present campaign in which he has registered one goal and a single assist in seven starts.

Hofmann will face his former employers on Matchday 18, the first Bundesliga weekend of 2016, when Gladbach welcome BVB to the BORUSSIA-PARK.
