Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been voted as Africa's second best footballer.
The Gabon international was hoping to be crowned African Player of the Year for the second successive season, but his 313 votes meant he was pipped to the crown by Algeria's Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City FC, 361 votes). Senegal's Sadio Mane (Liverpool FC, 186 votes) came third.
Watch: 2016 was the year of Aubameyang:
Aubameyang scored 32 goals for BVB in 2016 and currently leads the Bundesliga scoring charts having found the net 16 times in 15 games this season.
The 27-year-old, who will captain host nation Gabon at the African Cup of Nations later this month, became the first Bundesliga-based player to win the award when he triumphed in 2015.
