- Chicharito scores the winner against Atletico Mineiro.
- Leverkusen make it two wins out of two.
- Bayer produce dominant performance.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen made it two wins out of two at the Florida Cup 2017 after Chicharito scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over Clube Atletico Mineiro.
The Mexican megastar put an end to a run of 102 days without a goal to hand Roger Schmidt's men a thoroughly deserved victory against the Brazilian outfit.
Die Werkself fans in attendance at the Champion Stadium at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort were able to celebrate the return of first-team regular Karim Bellarabi, who played his part in Leverkusen getting off to a quick start. Schmidt's charges created plenty of chances with Kevin Kampl and Julian Brandt both going close before Hakan Calhanoglu struck the post with a ferocious free-kick.
Schmidt made five changes during the break, but it had little affect on the rhythm to proceedings as Bayer continued to press forward in search of an opener that came just before the hour mark. Calhanoglu found a pocket of space out wide to pick out an unmarked Chicharito, who made no mistake with his header from ten yards out.
Leverkusen could have, and perhaps should have, extended their lead in a one-sided encounter with Joel Pohjanpalo and Admir Mehmedi testing Uilson in goal, but Bayer's narrow lead ultimately remained untroubled as they cruised to victory.
