Leverkusen continued to dominate in the second half and had chances to level the score through Kießling and Danny Da Costa, before 17-year-old Sam Schreck showed them how it was done with a close-range finish. Schmidt's charges pushed for a winner late on and Kießling again went close with a looping header, but ultimately there were no more goals in regular time. Leverkusen went on to win the ensuing penalty shootout 4-2.
