Born 15 May 1997 in the Normandy town of Vernon, 80km from Paris and a stone's throw from Claude Monet's gardens at Giverny.    Joined Stade Rennes FC aged 13, signing his first professional contract on 1 October 2015 before making his Ligue 1 debut on 6 November 2015.After scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in his first 25 French top-flight games, Dembele was named the Ligue 1 Players' Player of the Year.
